A reasonable characterization of Talksox' date=' except for "basic", and the last six words.[/quote']

Haha, that was more of a joke than anything from the gamethreads.

Never been a huge fan of censors really.

I think SBF just dragged some drama to this place from an old forum he posted at...a Dodgers forum. I don't really know why he posted there, but the bad taste lingered until he found somewhere else.

I think you guys are right. Fred USED to be a Dodger fan, but he is now BORN AGAIN. He has SEEN THE LIGHT. He could not care less about them now. He remains borderline manic, but he is actually a pretty good-hearted guy.

I met Fred when I was at a Spring Training game with my brother in 2007. He was nice, didn't hang out or anything.

Have I mentioned my inability to read DFA as "designated for assignment" before?

I ALWAYS say "Digital free agent" in my head. I have no idea why.

Yeah.....seriously.....

His errors ARE a problem. His other problem is taking out other position players on the team and placing them on the DL.

The Patriots could use a middle linebacker like that.

Errors are not a good measure of a player's defensive ability.

You watch the games, right? Then let me ask you: How many times have you seen Beltre get to a ball Lowell doesn't even get a glove on then rush a throw and get it called an E?

Then compare it to:

How many times have you seen Beltre get to a ball Lowell wouldn't even sniff, and make a clean throw to first, getting an out that shouldn't have been an out in the first place?

Couple that with the fact that most of those errors came in April when Francona characterized his struggles as "trying too hard to impress" I.E: Being an idiot and trying to make the spectacular play.

The "lost ground ball" and "taking out OF" thing were aberrations, (even though Mike Cameron swears he will never field a fly ball near Beltre ever again), and in reality, his overall numbers tell the story.

I worry more about his taking out other position players than his errors.

I understand that errors don't tell the whole story; they are also not irrelevant. When you look at the defensive value of a player (or his offensive value as well) its important to use all of the data available. There are those who think that UZR is a good way to look at value defensively. Maybe it is. However, the sheer number of errors committed is hard to get around. Personally, I think that overall he has been a pleasant surprise. His defense is likely to improve over the course of the season, based on his history. As things stand right now, the errors stick out like a sore thumb.

The ground ball lost in the lights and the linebacker type treatment of his colleagues were freak events...somewhat humorous except for the fact that Ellsbury is still not healthy.

He won't take out Cameron. He'll leave every fly ball Beltre calls solely to him. With that abdominal tear, a knee from Beltre could wind up killing him.

Rain?

38 miles SW of Fenway the sky is decidedly overcast. No rain yet!

They better get this game in. The Sox need to feast on the AAAA MLB teams.

The tarp is up and the radar looks good. There is a break in the weather most likely between 7 and 10 pm at which time the rain will return...... according to weather.com

Hey I'm reporting from Philly...just going by what the internet tells me.

What's with the return of the Beltre hate tonight?

When the pumpkin showed up, I told him what the forum was like. Except I jokingly said everyone wants to DFA beltre, and apparently stirred up the dust.
