He started the Fenway Futures game last year at Fenway so this won't be his first appearance at the ballpark. He struck out 7 in 5 innings.

Probably looking at 5IP' date=' but it is better than Atchison for you guys[/quote']

I would be better than Atchison.

It's easy to have no faith in the guy. But he got it done the other night.

What they mean is that Atchison is not a SP, therefore he can't pitch as many innings as a SP would.

It's not necessarily about results, but about the fact he doesn't have the stamina to go more than three innings. Doubront, at his best, could go six or seven, and avoid using the entire bullpen.

Is this a one and done spot start for him? Is this perhaps a showcase of the kids talents to raise some trade interest in him? Maybe, but when Dice-K went back on the DL I immediately thought of this kids name to come up and take Dice-K's spot in the rotation until he comes off it.

MHO, it's a "we'll give you one start and see where this goes" which isn't quite the same thing as it just being one start and that's it.

It's at least partially dependent on the health of the other starters, especially Daisuke and Beckett. If they aren't healthy, Doubront stays on the roster.

As the haters have been mentioning, they haven't let up his reins yet. I think he has fairly strict pitch and inning limits, so it probably is too early to believe he'll be a big part of the team until he gets more development time. But until Beckett gets back, I would bet Doubront will probably be the team's extra starter if he does well.

For a first start, he didn't suck. He didn't exactly get a ton of help from the D but still put himself in line for a win.

All things considered I think he's done his stock more good than harm tonight.

At the end of 5 innings, 1 ER, .80 Whip. He fell apart after that, but those first five innings were such a good sign. He will need time to work on endurance, but he looked very good.

The question is, when Daisuke comes back, do you keep Doubront in the majors as a reliever or do you send him down to keep him stretched out.

Doubront needs more time in the minors. If he's good enough to pitch to 95 mph in the middle of the game and gets results, he has far more value as a starter. But throwing him into the rotation is a bad idea, and he needs more time in AAA--especially to build his endurance. It was acceptable to give him a spot start, but too much time in the majors will expose his stuff, throw off his development and mess with his confidence.

While it wasn't pretty, I think we'll all take Doubront's outing the way it was. Who'd have thought that we'd still be winning games with all of these "rejects" in our lineup and bullpen
