I was probably wrong in thinking Tito's mismanaging Varitek. He looks fresh, his swing is level and he's generating lots of power.

Something i've noticed since the beginning of the season (with the aid of Gameday) what's with Beckett and all the changeups?

From the Globe:

Top of the 2nd: Red Sox 0, Orioles 0

Beckett allowed a leadoff single but got Markakis to ground into a double play. He then hit Wigginton trying to come inside but got Tejada on a ball back to first that Lowell handled with ease.

Of Beckett's nine pitches, eight were fastballs and he was 93-94 with all of them.

In the second inning, he threw fifteen pitches, and four of them were changeups. There were entire outings last year in which he wouldn't (According to Gameday) throw more than two or three changeups.

How did Beltre f*** the Sox? You wont get a double play there, Reimold has enough speed to beat it out, only chance for a double play was to tag the runner and then gun it to first. Either way, 1 run scores on the play. Even if Beltre threw it home to get force to save the run, the next batter doubled and two runs would of scored on that play.

That ball was hit too slow for a 5-4-3 double play, so he attempted to do the only thing he could to get the double play, which was tagging the runner and gunning it to first. However, the runner (I believe Wigginton) made a smart base running play to avoid the double play.

Beltre didn't f*** the Sox and its stupid to think he did.

At least one of those runs should never have scored. Beckett dug himself a hole, but Beltre's brain fart cost at least one run. It's pathetic. I see better execution of fundamental baseball in Pawtucket.

To me, he's the biggest disappointment of the off season acquisitions.

I disagree. The play was to home preventing the first run. Then there would have been two outs. There is no way to speculate weather the next batter would have lined a shot down the line.
