3/4 groundballs find a spot to be hits. That's unfortunate, and vintage Dice K wasn't unfortunate, in fact he was the opposite. I'll take him pitching like this.

OK, now he's as bad as Wakefield.

He was unlucky in that he made good pitches and fooled some hitters and they found holes and he gave up an infield hit on a dribbler that should have been out number 3, but he's got to do some damage control when things don't go his way.

Dice screwed up by serving meatballs, but when his last start in AAA was limited to 85 pitches (I think), a lot of this falls on the Francoma. Too long a leash as he advanced over 85 pitches.

I don't think it's Francona's fault, I just think he pitched badly.

He gets through 80 pitches with 0 earned runs. Then, he gives up a pile of runs. This isn't all on him.

It's not a coincidence that those groundball singles turned into homers and doubles very quickly. He started the year on the DL and had to do rehab starts to get stretched out, this was his spring training, and he was at a point where he'd thrown more pitches than he had all year in a inning that was getting stale (ie his arm wasn't fresh from the dugout). It could have been avoided.
