He isnt even the best 2b in the game. Utley has that title. Kinsler and Cano are right at his level or better.

Ugh. Cano and Kinsler are second to Pedroia.

Edit: Yeah. I definitely wouldn't take Cano over Pedroia. It's Robbie's whole nonchalant fielding at times.

Kinsler's had one year better than Pedroia's baseline.

I don't think it matters per se that Pedroia isn't the best guy in his field. Especially since the one guy who's clearly better than him is Utley, and that's the guy out of their 25 that the Phillies keep.

Peddy's the guy you keep because between Pedroia, Youk and Lester (the finalists), the one you're least likely to be able to replace replace with an adequate player from among the players the other teams lose is clearly Pedroia.

In 2007, Pedroia won rookie of the year.

In 2008, Pedroia won mvp.

In 2009, he was distracted off the field with his pedophile brother crap, his father getting death threats, his wife having pregnancy complications, but still he had a completely respectable season.

In 2010 he's already hit a pile of home runs.

Everyone claims he's a huge clubhouse presence, and I don't think we've seen his full potential yet.

Underestimating Pedroia or Jacko trying to say there are potentially 1 or 2 more second basemen better, reminds me somewhat of Jeter being diminished by critics when there was Nomar or Arod at SS.

ARod wasnt better than Jeter?

The larger point was how Jeter was always being diminished in some measure when part of the vaunted Nomah!-Jeter-Arod -trifecta-.

it kind of sounds like you saying Kinsler or Cano are a cut above Pedroia. This is just too much like Red Sox fans vs. Jeter in the 90's.

Arod choked for so many years, you'd be hard pressed to find a Yankee fan from 2004-2008 that would have wanted Arod over beloved Yankee Jeter. A man, Jeter, that delivered so many times for the Yankees. (And even on defense, he's no slouch. That big play vs. Oakland in the playoffs, or diving into the stands against the Red Sox.)

It's not all about pure talent anyway.... Cano isn't really as good on defense or work ethic as Pedroia. I'd also trust Pedroia more in a clutch spot. And I wouldn't take Kinsler over Pedroia.

edit: sorry to start some Cano, Pedroia thing. Oops. My bad.

Anyway, I would probably start a team with Jon Lester .....so I agree with Jacko.

Guys, it has to be Lester. Pedroia is a good player, but he isnt your most valuable player. He is young, but he really isnt a guy who you start a team with. He is more of a great role player, even if he won an MVP.

Except, the bolded part. No, Pedroia is not a role player. Sorry, he's one of the league's young stars.
