the thing about Scutaro is that he's been an upgrade for exactly one season. Scutaro' date=' for the most part, is a sub .700OPS player.[/quote']

Career .721 OPS. But thanks though, your contributions here are invaluable.

Why mention Cabrera when Toronto picked up Al-gon for 2.7 million? We'd have a gold glove infield for a fraction of the price without really hurting the offense much at all.

Not to mention they locked the position for 3 years, by signing a mediocre SS, after a career year.

Like clockwork.

Marco Scutaro career OPS: .721.

Alex Gonzales career OPS: .692.

"But, but, but Scutaro had that fluke season!!!11!!!"

Alex Gonzales:

2003: .756 OPS.

2007: .793 OPS.

Not only that, "Not making outs" is part of the Red Sox offensive philosophy, and few players in baseball make as much outs as Alex Gonzales, whose career OBP is .294

Do you have any better options at hand? Also, did you check the contract? The three years aren't guaranteed.

*sigh*.

so, 29 points of OPS is worth the downgrade defensively? It isnt even a statistically significant difference. Hell, both have been circa .700 or below their entire careers sans 2 fluke yrs from both sides. The offense argument is f***ing hilarious. The ONLY thing you have here is the OBP. That is the only significant change, IMO. 40 points of OBP is a hell of a lot more convincing of an argument than 29 points of OPS

Read the post.

Let me spoon-feed it to you:

Marco Scutaro career OBP: .337 Since 2006:.354.

Alex Gonzales career OBP: .294 Since 2006: .301.

Feel free to continue pushing your agenda. The stats are there.

Nice edit. Right after you actually finished reading the post. Well done sir.

Like that makes it better. Stupid move. Signing a bad player just because he was the best FA in the market at the position.

Signing the best available option as a holdover until your top prospect is ready is just stupid?

You're a lot smarter when you don't post.

Believe it or not' date=' this is actually what i advocated for in the first place, but i think the downgrade in D is not nearly as big as the upgrade in Offense. Al-Gon will be back to being completely lost at the plate soon enough.[/quote']

I definitely believe it, considering that compared to Lugo/Lowrie/Green, he looked kind of like a savior last season. Sure, Scutaro will probably hit slightly better in the long haul, but do you really believe the drop in offense will be significantly better than Al-gon's defense? It seems like when he's healthy, he's well above his average numbers.

which prospect is next in line for the SS position, again? Jed, I cannot shake an injury or illness, Lowrie?

I thought you knew your prospects. Last i checked, Jose Iglesias was expected to take over the SS position in 2-3 years. Exactly the length of Scutaro's contract. Interesting. Try again, doc.

Jose Iglesias the Top Prospect.

Is there a problem with that? Maybe take off the bias glasses for two seconds and you'll see the light.

Man' date=' escaped my memory. Yeah, Iglesias is the next in line, my bad.[/quote']

Re-think your position?

He's a 20 year old SS with 39 pro ABs. Top Prospect

You're a retard and a troll. Go away.

This was well established long ago. Why he was allowed back remains a mystery. I can understand allowing someone back who contributed to meaningful discussion, but that never was the case with him. Taunting and mocking - the usual menu options from the Yankee fans allowed here. I don't understand why it gets allowed.

Iglesias does fit into the defense and pitching model. The kid has a hell of a glove.
