Let's see we've had Hughes/Joba vs Buchholz' date=' didn't really go our way. Pedo vs Cano, went our way a bit, same with Ells vs Gardner. Now it seems the next big debate is Banuelos vs Kelly. Who would you take?[/quote']

I'd say all three of those are still up in the air. The guys you are assigning as winners now are all in the midst of career years. Sure, they could be breakout years, but they can't be considered what you'd expect, not yet. The others can all show a lot more than they are right now (particularly with two of them on the DL).

Kelly vs. Shitcan (not saying he sucks, but his name reminds me of Spanish for bathroom), is guesswork at this point, just like all the others were.

I've had to work the Thunder/Rockcats series, and in last night's game, I was sitting a few rows behind home plate (as I usually do), and just before the game started, some tall, lanky, goofy-looking white dude sits right in front of me, and he had to have been at least 6 10" and destroys my view of the game.

Anyway, I mention that because I later found out that he was Andrew Brackman, who actually is listed at 6 10. I think that Manny Banuelos was sitting next to him.

In any event, one thing I learned is that a lot of teams have their own players sit in the stands and scout the other team as well as their own pitchers. Usually, the team will send injured players or starting pitchers on off days, and they will have radar guns and notebooks to look for particular things. Over the season I've gotten to meet and I've gotten autographs from a bunch of prospects. If I see Brackman and Banuelos again, I'll have them autograph my "Yankees Suck" T-shirt. ;)

That starts in the minors or in college. Our pitchers always scouted other teams in the area, charted pitches, etc. Not only does it help to know what an opposing pitcher goes to in the clutch, but it also keeps the pitchers heads in the game and potentially gives them ideas for when they pitch. Plus, nobody is better than a pitcher at seeing if someone is tipping pitches

Montero ends his regular season in style with his 21st homer. Final line for Jesus...

.289/.353/.517 OPS of .870, 21HR 75RBI 34 doubles. Hell of a season.

But his numbers from July 1 on were just stupid. .340/.406/.650 with 15HR in 197AB. This kid is special and has mastered AAA. He better be in the Bronx to start 2011. He is ridiculous

Montero will be up next season, if he's healthy. Should be interesting to see in ST. It's been a great season for our farm system. I got to say it's perhaps the best ever with player development. Watching Kontos, Laird, CoJo and Romine in the AFL should be fun too. Hopefully they continue to build their stock.

Yeah, after 2 devastating blows early on with Garcia and Bleich going down with career threatening injuries, it really took off. BA is finally set to have the Yankees in the top 10 next yr, even though they should have been there this yr. But that is neither here nor there. Since the Yankees failed to make a move for RJ in 2004 due to farm system weakness (although Cano and Wang were available at that time), Cash and Co. made their farm a priority. And in that time, we have seen Hughes, Chamberlain, Gardner, Robertson, Cano, Wang, Aceves, Nunez, Pena, and Cervelli make meaningful contributions on a 1st place team, while also seeing Kennedy, Jackson, Ohlendorf, McCutchen, Karstens, Tabata, and Steven Jackson make the bigs (or excel in Kennedy and Jackson's case) for others as well. And the fact that we are still in the top 10 means that there is a lot more to come.

What role?

C/DH. Posada isnt getting any younger and Montero is ready. His defense made some serious strides this yr. He's probably at Posada's defensive level and probably better in the batter's box at this point

Game calling is hit or miss. Cannot be much worse than Posada

Truth.

A guy(Hughes2.50) over at NYYFans compiled a top 20 prospect list. A good read...

The list of variables are: Organizational rank; Name; primary position expected in the majors as of today; level played in the minors this year; age +/- at June 30th this year; For position players (avg/slg%/On base plus slg%) For Pitchers (Innings pitched;K/9,BB/9; ERA); Prospect Ceiling, A+ = Perennial All-Star (e. g., M. Cabrera); A = All-Star (e. g., Michael Young); A-= Occasional All-Star (e.g., Pettitte); B+ = Above average player/pitcher with a chance for an all-star appearance (e.g., Swisher); B = Above average player (e.g., Ellsbury. Gardner, usually some exceptional skill but lacking five-tool ability, etc); B- = Solid starter; C+ = Starter or top reliever; C = High level utility player, starter on an average to weak team. Probability of reaching majors and potential (joint probability)

nyyfans is pretty awful for info. That list above is missing Corban Joseph and David Phelps who are definitely top 10. Eduardo Nunez, David Adams, Hector Noesi, and Jose Ramirez are all 10-20 well past Flores and Feliz. And I think he might be overrating Melky Mesa. I know he was FSL MVP, but he needs to prove he can do something at the higher levels before I put him in the top 20. His skills are off the chart, but he didnt start producing until he was older than the league, which is alarming

Really nice start from Dellin Betances tonight in Trenton's opening playoff game.

5.1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 8 K

Unfortunately Montero was forced to sit out Scranton's playoff game with some sort of leg infection.

Posted
Dellin had two errors via pickoff throws. Still pitching wise thats dominant and we needed it going against Drabek.

nova probably used a dirty needle when he was giving him his "B-12" injection

Montero had an infected hematoma that was drained. He's out for the season

i'll miss the daily updates on him. guess you'll have to move on to the second greatest yankees prospect of all time

Trenton Thunder pitching through the first two games of their playoff series...

21 IP, 0 R, 29 K

Granted, four of those innings were Pettitte's, but still extremely impressive.

Sick part is Manny Banuelos goes in game three, Brackman in four if needed.

David Phelps was great until the 6th inning last night for the SWB Yankees. Maybe he got a little tired? Igawa goes in game three, Noesi should get the ball in game 4.

Manny 7IP 5H 3BB 5Ks 83 pitches so far' date=' might be done for the night though.[/quote']

I'm following on the MiLB.com box score, but they don't have pitch count. Where are you getting updates?
