Is anyone else little concerned about Ortiz? I know it's spring training - but I am having a bad feeling that he might start the season like last year?

Well he still looks like pretty bad. I hope he turns it around, but I don't see it happening.

Less than 20 AB's into Spring Training?

Concerns about David Ortiz are legitimate this year. I know I'm watching him very carefully too. I think RWTP is throwing in the towel way early too, but we need the guy, and I'm still having nightmares about last April and May.

I think it's one of those "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" sort of things. We all know how long it took Ortiz sucking in order for him to be moved down in the lineup and for him to finally recover. While he did well after he got into his groove, it still took a painstaking amount of time to get there. Now that we went through that horrific period, we are much more sensitive to the situation in order to prevent last season's disaster from manifesting itself one year later. Hopefully Tito has an equally short leash on Ortiz as most of us had (ie pulling Ortiz from the lineup after a bad April instead of a bad April and May).

No, "pulling Ortiz from the lineup" is pointless. If you're going to pull him from the lineup, you're basically giving up on him and it's time to release him.

Dropping him in the lineup? That's another matter. But other than perhaps a few benchings for rest's sake, this guy needs to be in the lineup every day.

Benching is another form of pulling him from the lineup. You can pull him from the lineup because he's tired, or you can pull him from the lineup because he's sucking and wasting a lineup spot. Either way, it's still pulling him from the lineup.

Should we have been worried about Ellsbury hitting .100 before his two home run game. Come on. Its the spring a lot of players are still working on their timing. It is still early in the spring. we have over three weeks left of ST.

Even when he started hitting the home runs( he never hit for average) - he never looked like old Papi.

Hitting is part of Ellsbury's game while that is all Ortiz does. Given how he started last year - I think the concerns are legit.

Ortiz looked like he was washed up for 2 full months before he broke out. I do think the sox give him a bit of rope, but it wont be 2 months long. I wouldnt worry about anything in ST unless a pitcher's velocity is down more than 5mph consistently by the end of camp or if a guy gets hurt. Thats about it
