He really was the exception rather than the rule. I'll miss him' date=' sad way for him to go out. If he never broke his foot, he probably wouldnt be out of the org. God speed. Never disliked him.[/quote']Is he going to get a ring for last season?

He will. He was on the roster when we won.

He should, I think. As should Nady.

But I always liked Wang a lot and I wish him the best. The Nats haven't officially announced an agreement but they have a press conference scheduled for Friday. But who knows, maybe the Yanks match it last minute and bring him back into the fold. More than likely that's just wishful thinking on my part though.

I know if he's healthy, especially in the NL, he can turn it around.

I like this signing by Washington. They've had no pitching depth for quite a while now and if Wang can get back to being an effective pitcher, and I think he can, he will be a nice addition to their rotation. Plus, going to the NL should help him tremendously.

I always thought Wang if healthy would be a very good NL SP.

The Nationals really should have gotten a option year though. I think next season he could be really good. This year he could be decent. But guys usually are better the 2nd season back from any kind of surgery.

They don't need an option year, he's not yet eligible for free agency so unless they non-tender him after this year he won't be a free agent. They'll have to settle through re-negotiations or arbitration or something, but unless they don't want him he'll be there beyond this year.

Solid pickup for the Nats, even if he doesn't bounce all the way back he still has the stuff to be a solid innings burner.

As 26 pointed out the Nats are still rebuilding. THIS season is less important than future upside. If he rebounds to full health by the end of the year, he's under their arb control and can come back next year when they have a better hope of competing.

So if he burns 160 this year and 190-200 next, I don't think too many Nats fans complain about that.

This move is merely picking through the scrap heap. It will have little impact. These types of moves pay off very seldomly.

I think this has a chance to be one of the times it does. Not that I'm predicting a return to his old dominance -- not unless his strikeout numbers go up -- but this is an experienced pitcher who the only thing holding him back from a return to form is his health. I'd say he has a much better chance of bouncing back than your average scrap heap reject. You get a chance to pick up a veteran with those kind of credentials and do it cheaply you jump at it.

He was cheap. That's why they did it. They are trying to catch lightning in a bottle. They are not going to pencil him in the rotation just yet. I just hate these kinds of moves for my team. I just hate the dumpster dive moves. That's just my personal preference. He will not be picked for my Fantasy team.

 Whatever you say. I guess everyone forgot how good he was when healthy pitching in the AL EAST. Yeah he's recovering from injury, but like Dojji said, he's not your typical, over-the-hill scrap heap reject. He's still relatively young and when healthhy has tremendous upside. Oh well though. Your bias might make you disagree, but I think this is a low risk/VERY high reward signing for the Nats, and I think any smart team would have at least entertained the idea. If he can return to form, pitching in the NL, particularly the east, he could be great....so long as he doesn't break his foot on the bases again.

if he's that f***ing good then why didn't the Yanks re-sign him ???????

From the Nats' perspective, I don't think they had anything to lose by taking a chance on Wang. If he returns to form, and they don't wait too long to bring up Strasburg, having Lannan and Marquis as their 3 and 4 gives them a pretty nice rotation 1-4. Plus, they also have Drew Storen waiting in the wings to be their closer if Matt Capps doesn't work out. I could see them winning around 75 games this year. For this franchise, that probably should be considered a winning season.

That would be cause for a clubhouse celebration consisting of lots of champagne and an eventual parade through the streets of D.C.

Jordan Zimmerman will also be back by the end of the season. So the 2011 rotation would feature Strassburg, Zimmerman, Lannan and Marquis

I don't get why people think the Nationals having Jason Marquis is such a big deal. Even if you're putting him in the 4 spot in your rotation, bragging about him as an asset isn't saying a lot. He's a fairly run of the mill average National League pitcher, a lot like Jeff Suppan or Randy Wolf. I mean, it's a solid pickup for the Nats to actually land a veteran MLB caliber starting pitcher, but is that really the best they can do?

Wang's stuff is an order of magnitude better than Marquis'. He should outperform Marquis this year.

Marquis brings stability to their rotation, no one's saying he's one of the best in baseball. He'll give them a respectable ERA while giving them innings. Over last 6 seasons, he has made 194 starts

These are 5 pitchers who had most starts for Nats this past season

John Lannan- 33 starts

Craig Stammen- 19 starts

Jordan Zimmerman- 16 starts

Shairon Martis- 15 starts

Garret Mock- 15 starts
