As I've said, I don't follow hockey very closely anymore. I'd just love to see the Russians humiliated and if possible, finish without a medal.

oh......my.......God

I've been watching hockey a long time and that might very well be the best period of hockey I've ever seen a team play considering how good the opponent is.

When did Russia lose all ability to play hockey? Their lack of players that can/will work down low and forecheck is being exposed badly

Russia's defense was a widely known weakness going into the tourney. I had a feeling that would be exposed once they faced a great puck possession team but not to this extent.

So the semi-finals look like this: USA plays the winner of Finland and the Czech Republic Friday at 3pm eastern. Canada plays the winner of Sweden and Slovakia Friday at 9:30pm eastern.

That's a heck of a way to lose a hockey game. if his helmet doesn't fall off, or if he was allowed to play on without one, it'd still be scoreless.

Best Hockey seen in years, its nice for a change to see competetion that isnt watered down, a game that promotes offense and players that are playing as if theyre defending their nation from invasion.

The Russians looked as if they skated into Stalingrad last night.

I thought the Canadiens were a bit slower and may have had trouble keeping up with the quicker Ruskies who I thought were the creme of the tourney....It was 4-1 before the seats got warm.

The US continues to play great defense and handled those pesky Swiss, the Swiss goalie wouldve had a pop at MVP if his team was capable of generating any offense, they werent.

I also thought the Swedes would be a tuff out as defending champs, the Slovaks ate them up and pulled off the upset, the Slovaks seem big and handcuffed the free wheeling Sweeds who were trapped in between blue lines all night....Canada got a break perhaps.

I think the Fins are a better overall club than the Slovaks but with Canada having to play an extra game and having to play the bigger, more physical and experienced Slovakian club the US may catch a tired Canadien team if they both make it to the Gold....This will be fun and I'll even watch the girls play for the Gold tonight, even though its much slower the skill levels arent that bad.

This is the best hockey Ive seen in years, many years and if Gary Bettman is paying attention to this perhaps he's thinking what the rest of the hockey world is thinking, retract the NHL and get some of these douchebag franchises off the map.

Slovakia scares me simply because goaltending is the great equalizer in a tournament like this. But the one area I think Canada can take advantage is in Jaroslav Halak's tendency to give up rebounds which I see often since he's a Hab. With Canada's size, they should be able to get a few dirty goals.

Worth bearing in mind that the US and Swiss were both "playing to not give up the big goal" all night. Their strategy most of the game was obviously more to keep the Swiss out of their end of the ice than it was to make the goal light go off, and it's telling that that's exactly what happened.

Puck control and offensive zone time were the major points of contention for both squads, rather than goals and assists. I guess the US was trying to answer questions about how badly the Canadians outshot them. If they were, it worked but I was pounding the arm of my chair and screaming at the Americans to get someone, anyone in there and screen the dang goaltender for most of the game. Waaaaay too much time spent puttering around playing catch and taking long, unscreened shots along the outside of the Swiss zone that had realistically no chance to go in.

The US didn't score until they finally, FINALLY put two men on the goaltender in the early part of the third and put themselves in position for some second chance attempts, and the goal happened because Hiller lost sight of the puck as a result.

That sucks' date=' USA Womans hockey was supposed to win the gold. And we didn't medal in womens figure skating for the first time since 64'[/quote']

ehhhh, I'd say Canada was a slight favorite all the way through. And Canadian Joannie Rochette won bronze in women's figure skating just days after her mother died of a heart attack. That deserves mention too.

WHOO!!!!

Canada beats USA in womens Hockey 2-0 for the gold

Congrats to the Canadian women! Great game. No one could score on the goalie. She was awesome! Loved the beer and cigar celebration!!

Can a game in a sport really be played over days? Football? Nope. Hockey? Nope. Baseball? Nope. Basketball? Nope? Evene soccer? Nope.

Cricket is one messed up "sport".

It depends. You're clearly referring to test cricket, but there are plenty of one-day matches dependent on the number of overs. They put in one-day cricket for people with short attention spans. A lot of international tournaments are in the one-day method, which typically is 20/20, 30/30, or 40/40, which games aren't that much longer than baseball.

Nope just someone who enjoys baseball' date=' hockey and American beer.[/quote']

For the record, my point wasn't to insult hockey, it was more to insult women's sports, so you still have every right to be pissed at me, I just want you to be pissed at me for the right reasons. What I meant was that hockey is clearly the 4th sport in the states. There's football, baseball, basketball.......a bit of a gap....and then hockey. It's as if hockey is the unwanted cousin in the family of sports. Then factor in that the game last night was women's hockey, and it's relevance is further extinguished. Before yelling at me for being a raging sexist, look at the NBA vs. WNBA. Last night was the WNBA championship, but with hockey.

That was my point, to rip on WOMEN'S hockey, rather than hockey itself. I enjoy the occasional hockey game, especially the men's games in the Olympics, and a few choice games in the NHL (when I know there'll be a fight).

I stand by the American beer comments though.
