With pitchers and catchers reporting just a month away, thought about time to get a thread going.

Today there were some minor league signings. These guys will be around ST but will be just depth players in Triple A

Red Sox signed RHP Edwin Moreno to a minor league contract.

Moreno had a 4.84 ERA over 22 1/3 innings for the Padres in 2009. He will provide organizational relief depth for the Red Sox this year.

Red Sox signed SS Angel Sanchez to a minor league contract.

Sanchez hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2006 when he was a member of the Royals. The 26-year-old infielder owns a .279/.333/.353 career minor league batting line over eight seasons.

Red Sox signed OF Darnell McDonald to a minor league contract.

McDonald hit .267/.306/.400 with two homers, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored in 47 games for the Reds last season. A lot would have to go wrong on the Red Sox' depth chart for him to crack the Opening Day roster.

Red Sox signed RHP Jorge Sosa to a minor league contract.

Sosa posted a lousy 6.45 ERA and 1.79 WHIP in 18 games for the Nationals before they designated him for assignment in September. He's not likely to make much of a splash for the Red Sox this season.

So wait, the guy starts an interesting thread about the Sox, and instead of seeing the value in it, it's a necessity to jump on him because of a typo.

Wow.

Well, I'm excited to see what kind of shape Beckett and Dice-K come to camp in. I'll never forget that Spring Training Image a few years ago were Beckett came in out of shape and had his gut hanging out of his uni. I'm excited to see the new guys, and I'm curious to see how good a Spring Training Ortiz has. I'm waiting for the Mike Lowell trade talks to start up again during ST also.

Ever hear of "tongue in cheek"?

I have. And this is kind of funny.

I misspelled Sponge in my sig last simmer and YOTN asked me to shange it because he did not have access/power to change it.

Maybe a Mod can change the spelling of a thread tittle?

Otherwise, who the f*** cares. It's just part of the "Talksox Experience".

Really. There is lots of stupidity on this board. We seem to survive it all. What harm is one typo?

BTW, I can't spell for s***.

You belaboured the point more than Family Guy belabours the Peter vs. Giant Chicken fights' date=' Brian's novel, and Conway Twitty cutaways.[/quote']

I like Family Guy, but those Conway Twitty cutaways are awful. Not funny at all.

Red Sox signed RHP Chad Paronto to a minor league contract.

Paronto had a cup of coffee with Houston in 2009 and had his major league value come with Atlanta from 2005-2006. The right-hander's ERA was 1.39 over 44 games for Triple-A Round Rock, and will be fine depth for a Boston club that figures to have one middle relief spot up for grabs. The club also inked RHP Scott Patterson, RHP Kelvin Pichardo, 2B Ray Chang and 3B Christian Colonel

The comic strip called "Non Sequitur" commemorated "Truck Day" today with a few recurring characters. Eddie, a lobstah man, declared that it meant "wintah is ovah." It is hahd to ahgue with that. :)

Growing up a Yankee fan in CT, I always thought truck day was stupid. But after defecting to NY for 4 yrs and now back in MA for 3, I see truvck day as a symbol of hope. Hope that the winter is coming to a close, hope that warmer weather and fun is around the corner, and another season of baseball to occupy the mind. Truck day may be a Red Sox thing, but for native New Englanders, its a great day regardless of the colors you root for. We're almost there people. 50 more days until opening day

Matsuzaka makes an early appearance

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff February 13, 2010 10:25 AM

Daisuke Matsuzaka arrived in Fort Myers two days ago and looks terrific according to people here who have seen him.

We're hoping to get a look at Matsuzaka today. He arrived at the Player Development Complex today in an SUV that zipped around the back. There's a chance he might throw off a mound later this morning.

Jon Lester and Daniel Bard threw off the mound yesterday. They are among the handful of big leaguers already here. Terry Francona is here as well.

Talked to Latin American coordinator Eddie Romero, who reported that Jose Iglesias is among the early arrivals and has been working out for about a week now. The Sox are anxious to get a good look at their shortstop of the future.

Check back later for another report. It's 65 here but windy. Sunny, though.

Adding weight without conditioning is not always a good thing.

With his height and size, he could have afforded to gain the weight.
