Welker was running at about 75% for about 20 minutes in stretching, agility, and cutting drills today at OTA's. Seeing him out on the field already makes me very excited. Maybe he will be actually ready enough to avoid the PUP list when the season starts

He may avoid the PUP list but I am thinking that he's not gonna see anywhere near a uniform until AT LEAST week four, if not longer. Take it from a guy who has had an ACL reconstruction already and needs another one in August - it's worse than it looks. There's so much rehab and strength training that needs to go into it. I got my surgery Dec 07, came back to playing tennis @ the D1 level in college the next fall, and I popped my ACL graft with relative ease.

Even if there is a shot in hell of him playing in week one, I think he needs to be kept out until at least week four, if not longer.

Completely agree, but I don't think anyone should be getting overly excited for anything at this point. I feel great for the guy and would LOVE to see him on the field week one, but it's really just not that realistic.

I agree YH, but he has access to the best doctors and trainers in the world. They'll have him back at an accelerated recovery rate than you or I would have.

I agree though, ACL's are nothing to be excited about. He does have a long road. Good to see him moving around.

So I guess Kaczur has a "significant" injury that could keep him out for the year. Huge blow to this o-line that is already without Mankins.

They screwed the pooch with Mankins.

Brady's gonna' get pounded.

I wonder if they are still talking about a contract? I haven't heard anything in a while. Mankins is one of the few guys who might really stay true to his word and sit out till week 10 or whatever the cutoff date is to get credit for the season.

Buffalo released Schobel. I'd love to see the Pats get this guy signed if he will accept reasonable money. He would instantly become their best pass rusher and strengthen their biggest weakness. Matt Light would be thrilled.

The Pats promised to make Mankins a top 2 salaried guard. Then the saints paid Evans much more than he deserved, and elevated that promise by $1-2 million per season. Mankins is expecting the pats to stay true to their word, while the Pats had a specific number in mind that has now been dwarfed.

It's been common knowledge spouted by every announcer on EEI and spoken out of Mankins mouth in a previous interview

lol

I've just never heard that it was specifically top 2 guard money and wanted a legitimate source.

In all fairness, Mankins has been reported to have said that the Pat's told him that he would be paid as the top player at his position. The entire Boston media has said it.

Who knows what was really said? The Pat's have never really paid market for a player. Not in the last twenty years, anyway. The Pat's (Kraft/Belliceck) have backed themselves into a corner here, They should really sign the guy. Otherwise Brady will be looking at the clouds far too often.

From what the media has released, the Patriots offer to him would have made him a top 5 paid player at his position. Unfortunately we don't know how it was structured and that could have something to do with his anger towards the team. I just never heard that he was promised top 2 money and wanted a quote or whatever from some media outlet.

I really have to disagree with that. Sure, they love their "value" signings but they have dished out market money in past, just not that often. You gotta admit that it has worked out great for their franchise.

I certainly can not refute , nor disagree with what you have posted.

What we know about the Mankins situation is what we hear from the media.

As a business owner, I like what the Pats do. There is no arguing that they have been able to remain competitive while letting proven vets walk. I just think that the O line is one place that they should continue to stabilize. Too much is at stake.

It's a non-capped year' date=' so the Patriots should pay him. They should also sign Aaron Schobel.. the fact that he's possibly willing to take a one-year deal is almost too good to be true.[/quote']

Shobel is said to be leaning towards playing for Houston. Too bad.

At least he won't be playing against the Pats 2X a year.

The uncapped year is only complicating things for franchises signing high priced players to long term deals. If Schobel really would take a one year deal,(which I feel is unlikely considering he just walked away from a large sum of money) the uncapped year could work in the Patriots favor.

I agree. The most likely destination for Schobel is Houston.

Is anyone interested in getting things going at Talkpats?

We had about 5 members from here posting on a regular basis last year.

It doesn't matter if you're a Pats fan or not. If you like to talk about football, it's a good place to do it.

I have started a game thread for tonight's Pats/Saints game over at Talkpats.com.

Hope to see some people over there.

Oh.

The Pats lost a lot of leadership last yr and their defense showed. They drafted a lot of leaders who also play well this yr and in a few yrs, Brady's twilight, their defense should be better disciplined

So I just found out Ty Warren is out for the year with a hip injury

That's a huge loss. I have no confidence whatsoever that guys like Brace or Pryor can step up and fill the void.

Yep, heard about this several days ago. That's a really tough blow.

I hope the 2010 Pats don't have to go through half the injury problems the Sox and Bruins did.
