It makes sense to put a guy in center who has a better UZR at the position and move a guy to LF who has a better UZR at that position. Ellsbury is really following in Johnny Damon's path, Damon was a CF but his UZR decreased every year he was in Boston and after 02 he didn't post a positive UZR in CF, then he got moved to CF. I know its irrelevant but I always think the two of them are very similar ball players. It took Damon four full seasons to have an average and OBP of what Ellsbury put up last year, and it wasn't really until the middle of his career that he put up the power numbers. That tangent was totaly irrelevant, but anyway, with the exception of catcher, there really isn't a weak defensive position in the entire infield

This team has the potential to really shut other teams down.

I think Ellsbury will be great in LF. He can focus on his offensive game while boosting the team's defense significantly, especially on the road. Meanwhile, Cameron is a professional centerfielder with some pop.

Red Sox starting pitchers are undoubtedly happy about the team's new focus on defense. It is logical. Defense is somewhat undervalued financially. It is also the best way to maxamize the Sox inherent advantage, the rotation.

It isn't obvious on the surface, but good defense can turn mediocre pitching performances into good pitching performances. They will have good gloves everywhere but SS and C and five good starters.

Wisdom here.

Preventing runs is the same as scoring them.

Defense is underrated because most of the media stats are offensive. Even the agents have a tendency to overvalue fantasy stats, though Boras may change that somewhat with Beltre.

I think Ellsbury would feel honored to play left field at Fenway Park...maybe they're saying they do trust him.......LF is sacred ground in Boston......Ted, Yaz Rice....maybe they're saying Ellsbury is the future, Bay didn't want it Ellsbury inherited it......

He was the MVP of the Series when he rolled around on the ball. Damon threw like a chicken so he cut the ball off. He was thirsty. Youk needs a slap now and then, because he let's his anger get the better of him. Finally, he didn't throw the old guy down. He pushed him and the guy fell. He had poor balance. Manny is great. I've got nothing bad to say about Manny. I wish he was still in the lineup.

I've got no issues with Manny. Would I have liked to see him leave on a better note? Yes. But that aside, he was a great player to have around.
