After all of Boras's posturing, he came back to the Yankees and asked for $10 million for two years today. By then, the Yankees had agreed to Nick Johnson for 5.5 million, and there was no going back.

I loved Damon, he is a hard-nosed player, but I'm glad to see Boras get kicked in the teeth. He may get similar money to the 2 yr, 20 million, but not on a great team. He has no one to blame but his agent. f*** Boras. I have nothing against the guy, he does his job, but he's dropped the ball a few times now on all but the top tier free agents, and he just did it again. I mean, he had to read what I was reading, how the Yankees were negotiating with Nick Johnson. He dropped the ball.

I'm assuming you never thought a client hates having Boras for an agent when he was dicking around with the Red Sox. For the most part, clients absolutely love Scott Boras. Damon doesn't hate Boras for a minute, he got Damon a 4 year, 52 million dollar deal from the Yankees years ago.

He's lost his luster recently. If the player isn't a superstar with multiple bidders, he's bitten the bullet a few times recently.

This is a buyer's market. Labour cost for players that aren't superstars has plummeted. I don't see how you can lay that on an agent's feet.

Gom do you think there's no way the Yankees sign Holliday at this point? The Cardinals made a big offer to him and as far as I know he hasn't accepted yet. I can't help but wonder if the Yankees will see 19-20m for Holliday as a relative bargain.

I would be completely shocked. First of all, next year's free agent class blows this one away. Secondly, he's a righty, which wont play well in the new Stadium. Secondly, he wants an obscene amount of money for a long time.

He's a luxury, not a necessity.

I'd rather take that 20 million, throw it at Sheets and Damon. They would cost about the same..and be short term.

I just don 't see where he wants obscene amounts of money. The Cards offer is very good in years, but AAV it isn't huge. If he has reservations about playing in St. Louis for 8 years and would rather play in NY I can see them offering him 5-6 yrs x 18m/yr. He goes to the best team in baseball, they get a new LF.

I don't remember the Yankees passing on most luxaries in the past.

I don think he's worth that much. In this market, I honestly wouldn't give him more than 15...and he'll make that.

I agree, they should spend the elsewhere. I too would be shocked if they sign Holliday. Shocked and disappointed. I probably shouldn't be, we've been shocked quite a few times in the past, most recently last year with Tex. I just don't see it as being a good fit at all though.

Sox offered him 5 years, 82 million. He didnt accept.

I would be stunned if the Yankees signed Holliday. They've shown in both their words and their actions that they are going to be extremely money conscious this offseason.

In the past, who have the Yankees signed at that kind of AAV that you think they considered a luxury?

I think the perfect example of someone they didn't get is Carlos Beltran. If you believe the reports, he was willing to go to the Yankees for less money (somewhere around 100 million total), but the Yankees didn't believe offense was an issue, so they passed.
