Yeah' date=' even if you take away the 1B comparison, the Red Sox have clearly better defenders at second base, third base, center field and in left field. And it's pretty much a wash between the two teams at every other position.[/quote']

Right Field.

Do you care to make a counterargument or do you just want to bash the stats because they show the Sox as having a much better defense?

P.S. - What defensive stats should I have included with UZR, FPCT? It's not like there's a lot of reliable fielding stats out there.

I agree, there's not very much to evaluate defense on, but I know I personally tend to shy away from UZR. I'm not debating your comparisons, I just wouldn't base it on a single flawed metric. But it's more than I've got to base it on, so I'll give you that one. But I think honestly both teams play pretty solid D, and if one team has a slightly better defense than another, it's not a very dramatic difference. I'll leave it at that.

Some objectivity is required on both of the subjects i have touched on this post.

 @ U telling ME to be OBJECTIVE.

Look I was just giving you guys my views, I wasn't pushing any of it onto anybody or anything like that. My thoughts that you're underestimating Hughes and Joba doesn't mean I think they will be better than Dice-K and Buchholz, I'm simply reserving judgment. Saying that I don't expect A-Rod or Jeter to dramatically decline defensively doesn't mean their immune to aging, just means that I don't forsee it. Doesn't mean it can't or won't happen, just that I don't get that indication.

As for ME taking things out of context, that seems to be all you do. You take every word someone types, especially a Yankee fan, and flip-flop in your head every possible way and over-think and over-analyze every last letter in every last word. Rather than discuss and debate you come at everybody with a confrontational tone to your posts, which I think rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Seems like every post you make towards me contains some sort of confrontational tone or remark. I think you need to realize that just because we root for different teams doesn't mean we're looking to fight and argue every single point. You do a lot of fuel-feeding to to the fires however, and a lot of it can simply be avoided. This simple blurb of a thread about Nick Johnson signing (well not even signing asn't nothing official has been reported yet, they're reportedly close to agreeing as it stands now, until the morning at least) shouldn't have turned into an 8 page war of everything Yankees vs Red Sox. We get to do that 19 times a season, let's save some of the hostility.

Baiting attempt denied. Please refer to my earlier post about the measures that need to be taken about your mindset. It is your opinion, and you're entitled to it, but that doesn't give you an escape clause for the instances when it is incorrect and you are called out on it.

Btw, you're bashing UZR, and i'm nearly 100% positive you don't know how it works.

Not to be a dick or anything by any means, but tell me who's playing third base and left field next year for you guys next year before you say who's better than who.

Wow you jumped on that post, did u even take a breath between the time that I posted it and the time that u replied?

And nice try, but I'm not trying to bait you, I'm just sick of all the constant BS here and what this site has become. It's almost stressful at times, which isn't good. I have enough stress in my life, I don't need it here. If anything though I feel your post was a better attempt at "baiting" than mine was.

And which post are you referring to?

In all fairness, you attacked more his posting style than the point he was attempting to make. That's just my opinion of it, though.

I honestly wasn't trying to attack him, just trying to make him aware that some of his posts come off as confrontational, which just escalates situations when taken the wrong way. I truly wasn't trying to attack him in any way, but I suppose I can see how it could be taken that way. I apologize for any misunderstandings. I'm exhausted, stressed out, and the last thing I'm trying to do tonight is get into an online s***-show with a Red Sox fan...not tonight. In fact I think I'm gonna call it a night, we can resume the fun tomorrow.

Goodnight everyone.......

Understood, but I don't see how that's inciteful. However, you said you're exhausted and stressed out, so maybe that impairs your judgment, not to mention you're a Yankee fan. ;)

Yeah but you can't objectively make these comparisons based on the past. Based on last year and their projections going forward I think it's more than fair to call Posada/Ortiz a wash. I personally might even take Posada because he's a switch-hitter' date=' but that may just be some Yankee bias coming out. I'm sure you Sox fans would prefer Ortiz too. The opinion of a neutral party would be much more reliable.[/quote']Are you basing your conclusion on the facts that Ortiz has been a far superior offensive player over their careers and that Ortiz even outproduced Posada last season after the first two and a half months? Are you basing your projection going forward on the fact that Posada is older than Ortiz? That just doesn't make sense to me.

While I agree that it would be nice if this thread didn't turn into a Yankees vs. Red Sox thing, I don't think the Red Sox fans are to blame. Jacko was the one that started comparing the two, and whether he's right or wrong, that's only going to lead to one thing.

Agreed.

ORS was right in calling him out. He wants to pound his chest at every possible instance, and i'm pretty certain it rubs off the wrong way on you sometimes as well.

Agreed. It should be about Nick Johnson, and how this effects the Yankees, and THEIR lineup, not a dick-measuring contest between Sox and Yankees fans.

Anyways, Nick Johnson's a pretty good deal, high OPS for 5.5M, and yeah, you take a risk of his injury history, but he's an absolute on-base machine.

Well, I wouldn't say that ORS was in the right. While Jacko was the one who began the comparison, it was ORS who escalated to an unnecessary level with his insult. There was no need for either one, and like people have said, it just ruins threads, and creates unnecessary conflict.

In general, I think all of us could do a better job in helping to avoid the unnecessary conflict that seems to happen here, although I realize some of it has to do with the offseason.

I think there was a point outside of Jacko's repeated biased baiting attempts that ORS was trying to make, which he said early on in this thread.

Well i meant to call him out on starting the issue in the first place, otherwise you would be correct.

I've been trying my best not to get tangled up in shitstorms or unnecessary fights, but i feel as though everyone else should understand that when you make a post here, either it be statistical or opinion, it is bound to get challenged. No use getting angry if someone shows you when you are incorrect, or tries to do so, all you have to do is defend your point to the best of your abilities using either logic or statistical analysis.

Posted
Yeah, but also, when things were calm, and we were having a civil discussion, Gom escalated things even further, by calling everyone who posted in this thread a stupid douchebag. I've come to expect this from Gom.

I couldn't agree more. If someone challenges your post, it is almost never personal.

Whatever, I enjoy this board, I just think that there is a bit too much Yankees vs. Red Sox and a bit too many fights. Regardless, it's the only online forum that I contribute to, and it'll likely stay that way.

It's useless to talk the talk like some people tend to do. You need to walk the walk and lead by example.

Right, well, I'm not one to call out specific people, but I will say various people played a role, throwing around unnecessary insults.

In all honesty, although i did show a baiting instance that happened with Jacko yesterday, i tried to pull it back to baseball discussion ASAP.

I just find it funny, now that i attack the points in posts, or the bias in person's thought process, they get even more pissed and butthurt than when i threw insults around.

Most people, myself included, consider you to be the most unbiased Yankee fan on the board. In fact, I'd say you're possibly the least biased fan of either team on the board. We're all homers at some point, I've defended the Twins when I shouldn't have, but in the end, I like to think I'm pretty unbiased as well.

C'est la vie my friend. Normally I would feel bad about running the thread off course, but with this one, I don't think it really matters anymore.

I think they're just used to your former style, and expect that, so they just live off of that. They don't really realize that you've actually changed your style significantly.

I appreciate the compliment. I do my best to remain objective. I'm glad we were able to move past our differences.

Yeah, it's all about not taking it too personally, besides, I realized the legitimacy of all of that. It's no big deal.
