Report: Tigers close to dealing Curtis Granderson to New York Yankees in a 3 way deal

I have said many, many times that you need 3 pitchers in your rotation that you can count on to take the bump 30+ times and average 6 innings per start. We now have that, and not many teams do. Chamberlain as a #4 starter is also very nice and Hughes as the #5 should outperform the standard #5 in the AL. Now that we have Pettitte back, I think we might be done in the rotation. We just need to have some contingency plans should someone not work out. I like Gaudin in the short term and Wang in the long term to fill that role.

Call it ******** if you want but Toronto won't get a better deal for Halladay if they keep pulling the "we want your whole farm" routine .. I know it's moot at this point but the Yanks pretty much took themselves out of any possible deal for Halladay by giving up Jackson IMO.. and if they had waited a little bit they might have even landed him for what they gave up for a platoon player (yeah' date=' I said it!)[/quote']

NY has a LOT more chips left. The Granderson deal took one big one away, but this farm system is deep and the 25 man roster has a lot of young kid on it who are valuable

Like I said, while they were able to win the World Series with those three last year, I think they accomplished it by a slim margin (much slimmer than their 11-4 record suggests). Unless Chamberlain or Hughes really come into their own, which I acknowledged is possible, I don't think they have enough to win a World Series as the roster is currently constructed.

I hope you're right, and I remember hearing at the end of last year that they plan to retract all the rules this year. However, in an interview that Cashman did today with MLBN, he didn't commit to Joba as a starter, only saying that's where he's leaning.

If you're right, and Joba has a big season, I would agree that the Yankees are OK pitching wise.

You have to give him the chance. Thats the thing. Prior to when they started monkeying around with him, he was very solid. sub-4ERA, WHIP around 1.4. Not great, but very solid for a #4 and thats with him missing his plus fastball for most of the yr. He's stronger, a yr older and a yr more experienced. I expect a big yr

IMO, Joba will never be a good starter. He has no endurance whatsoever. He belongs in the pen. I think Hughes has more of the makeup for a starter, but he's still unproven.

I don't doubt his endurance, but his effectiveness at being consistent with his release point.

Which is a symptom of poor endurance.

Not necessarily. He loses his release point in the first inning sometimes.
