I just came up with this...tell me what you guys think...

What if....the Blue Jays traded Halladay away...but forced you to take Vernon Wells?

You'd obviously have to give up less....but the Blue Jays would get rid of that albatross of a contract in Wells, and really get to rebuild.

The Phillies could absorb it. So could the Yankees. Ditto the Mets and Red Sox. Don't forget, you guys had to take Lowell in the Beckett deal. Worked out for you, but it shouldn't in Wells' case.

I'm not saying it will happen..but as food for thought, what do you think?

I think Wells is unmoveable. I've read that a lot of people say that his contract is the worst they have seen handed out in baseball. Now if Wells wasn't making 18 million a season and was more like around 9 million then yes I would take a chance on him. Because depending on what happens in left, he could have been stuck out there. But there is no way the Sox should take on this albatross of a contract.

No. He's too expensive for the Red Sox.

12.5m

23.0m

21.0m

21.0m

21.0m

And then to get the privledge of signing Roy Halladay at near $20m too... I don't see it.

I don't know. I'd pretty much try to to push him on any team.

you'd be pushing him off the Niagra Falls before you'd push him on any baseball club.

Guy, this s*** has been part of the hot stove discussion for quite some time, with many pundits suggesting the Jays include Wells to be rid of him. "Just came up with this....", LOL, orignal thoughts for the win.

I hadn't heard it. Doesn't mean someone else might have said it, either. I actually asked Dipre, and he hadn't heard it either.

Do you have a link where it was discussed? I'd like to read it.

It was being discussed over the summer when all the Halladay buzz was at it's height.

If I were the Yankees I would consider it and hope that a change of scenery abnd less pressure to produce could turn him around.

I wonder how Jacko feels. What would I give up for Halladay and Wells?

No more than Joba or Austin Jackson.

I don't know what happened to Wells. He was a perennial Sox killer with his bat and defense.

What was his injury? Is that the cause for his decline?

In any case, the Jays gave him a really dumb contract.

What would Jacko think, other than, "WTF Gom??"

That's much too high a price to take those guys. Halladay for a year guaranteed and a totally ineffective Vernon Wells for 20m+?

His contract is SO BAD. No normal team can just take on 20m/yr of dead weight. Most teams don't want to have ONE $20m player, let alone one who sucks.

I think the Yankees could keep their prospects and land Halladay by offering to take Wells at full price. I see reason to think that he would do okay as a Yankee OF, but between he and Halladay the Yankees would be paying 40+/yr for awhile after 2010. Toronto would get to do a price dump, but they wouldn't get much to move forward with.

Wells could just need a change of scenery. Could be the next 2007 mike lowell.
