I figured it was an appropriate time for a thread like this, and, hopefully, it will spark some good discussion and debate. I recently read a book that ranked the top ten World Series' of all time. They were...

1991

1975

1924

2001

1912

1946

1971

1947

1955

1962

I was wondering what everyone else thought...

This should make for some fantastic discussion, and, for the baseball historians amongst us, it'll really test our memories.

2004.

Obvious bias is obvious.

I think 86 has gotta be up there..

Yeah, I would say 1986 has to be considered, but one of the issues is that three of the games (2, 3, and 4) were one sided. Game 6 was the only truly fantastic game of the series, and game 7 lacked a great ending.

2001 if we're talking ones that we can remember ourselves.

Featured three of the greatest World Series games of all time. Game seven featured three all time great starting pitchers, and arguably the greatest closer ever. 2001 certainly has a legitimate case to be number one.

1991' date=' nuff said. Isn't that usually always number one?[/quote']

Four games ending on the last at bat. The only issue with those games is that there wasn't really a great comeback.

Regardless, in game 6, Jack Buck's call, "And we'll see you...tomorrow night", is one of my favorite calls of all time.

And game 7. Obviously you have the pitching matchup. Morris going ten innings. Smoltz pitching into the eighth. And then you have the two great escapes, Morris in the eighth and Stanton in the eighth. You also have an all time famous gaffe. Definitely a top five game 7 of all time. The only reason I might argue that game seven in years like 1912, 1924, and 2001 (to name a few) were better is because of the star power involved.

Sox reds 75 was the best

balt vs pitt in both 71-79m amazing display of basball.

Cards Brewers 82 then Cards kc in 85 and the twins cards 87 wasnt bad either.

Jack morris at 40 went 10 shut out ip in game 7 in 91

Dbax Yanks in 2001 wasnt really that close due to lil Kim who blew back to back leads in the 9th

These are ones I saw, ive read about others like 1960 but i can only comment on what i saw.

That's fair. Obviously I haven't actually witnessed too many World Series', so I might not be as qualified to comment on them as others. However, I have read and watched a great deal, and I feel like I'm more than capable of commenting on them. I understand you're not directing that at me or calling me out or anything of the sort, so I'm simply stating where I'm coming from.

Anyway, 1971 and 1979 are definitely interesting ones. 1971 has the appeal of Frank Robinson vs. Roberto Clemente. Robinson should probably have considered keeping his mouth shut before that series and 1969. And 1979 featured the last road team to win a game 7.

1982 was good, and it also had a decent game 7 (back when Joaquin Andujar did more pitching than attacking umpires). The one thing that kind of put me off about the series is that the Brewers actually held a parade.

Sox vs Reds. Was it '75?

Whatever. Great drama.

I remember exactly where I was when Fisk hit that homer.

By the way, Sanford Maine was a s***-hole then.

Of the World Series in my lifetime I have to go with 2001, even though we were on the losing end. If I were to formulate a top 10 all-time (not including the "World's Series" prior to 1903 between the NL and AA, although there were some good ones there) it would be...

1960 featured probably the greatest final two innings of a game seven in the history of the World Series. However, besides game seven, the series wasn't really that great. Three of the games were complete blowouts. In fact, 1960 remains the only seven game series ever where the winning team really got outplayed (2001 would have eclipsed it). It also remains the only World Series where the MVP came from the losing club.

While 1985 was a seven game series, it was probably one of the worse ones in my opinion. There was only one really great game, but it is more known for a blown umpire's call than anything else. Also, game seven was an absolute joke. It is more known for John Tudor putting his hand through a glass window and Joaquin Andujar going nuts on an umpire. I don't really think that one fits into the equation.

Same thing with 2008. I don't see what was so remarkable about that series.

1993 was definitely one of the best six game World Series ever. Games 4 and 6 were classics. It also probably had one of the greatest endings in World Series History. The lasting image for me is Schilling with the towel over his head.

In terms of six game series, the one, in my opinion, that doesn't get brought up enough is 1996. For me, the 1996 World Series produced the most improbable and unlikely outcome that I've ever witnessed. The Braves were clearly the superior team, but the Yankees just got so many unbelievable and timely breaks (and benefited greatly from one controversial managerial decision), that it pushed them over the top. The series had two great games, and two more good games.

i hope AJ Burnett doesn't ruin any of these world series games with some gay pie in the face thing.

then don't watch, cuz it's gonna happen, it's the only way they can get AGay Burnett not to blow a load in someone's face instead.

I'm not really a fan of the pies, but I love how people always have a problem with the Yankees. First it's that they're way too serious or business like and never have any fun - "They should be more like the Idiots!!!". Now it's that they have way too much fun.

Whatever, people will always have an issue no matter what...

Did you expect love for the Yankees on a Red Sox site, my good sir?

Of course not. But, even if you dislike a team, I think people's criticisms can get a little bit ridiculous.

It's the Yankees. I hope one of their players-- preferably Jeter-- gets blinded by one of those pies.

Dislike and hate are two completely different things.

Well, you are just always over the top. Which I enjoy haha.

Well, I don't know what it feels like to hate a baseball team, so I guess I can't really comment. I just find some of the things people say to be a little bit ridiculous. No big deal though.

I'm glad that you don't get twisted about it like some people do.:D

Haha, not a problem. Considering you're the one person who always has my back about Girardi, it's the least I can do.

2001 was the most dramatic WS IMO. 2 game tying homers in the 9th inning on back to back games then a game 7 collapse by the best playoff pitcher of all time with a lead in the 9th? I hated it and I still have nightmares about that one game, but it had to be the best WS in my lifetime anyway

I just want them to lose. The only reason AJ giving creampies (pun intended) bothers me is because it means they just won a ballgame.

The Yankees had their fair share, but let's face it, other than Schilling and Johnson, most people would be hard pressed to name the other players on the Arizona team. The Yanks got beat by 2 pitchers and a bunch of nobody's.
