Paul Pierce will miss the Celtics' upcoming four-game road trip, and may be sidelined for as many as two weeks, because of a knee problem that required a medical procedure on Wednesday.

Team owner Wyc Grousbeck said Pierce began feeling discomfort in the knee after Tuesday night's victory over Indiana. He described the problem as an infection that required drainage, but said he wouldn't describe the procedure as surgery.

"He had the knee rinsed and irrigated, and it will require some antibiotics," said Grousbeck. "It's nothing major at all, but it will take some time to come back from. He'll be out for a week, maybe two, and will definitely miss the four games on the road."

Grousbeck said Pierce hadn't complained of any knee problems prior to Tuesday night.

The Celtics recalled forward Bill Walker on Wednesday and there was speculation the move was related to Kevin Garnett's injury, which caused Garnett to miss Tuesday's game. But it now seems apparent Walker will replace Pierce.

Disagree with you guys. He was awful when he was seeing time sparingly but since Daniels went down he's been playing decent ball. Still the goofy turnover prone ball, but he's been playing a lot better recently. I hate TA as much as the next guy but there's no denying that he's been playing better.

Could there be a split between the young and old guys on the C's? I heard a Bill Simmons podcast with Ric Bucher and they were both in agreement about there being a schism between the Rondo/Perk faction and the Big 3 of PP/KG/Ray. They went into the examples of Perk and Rondo tuning out KG and that was the reason Perk sulked through the Clippers game. In sum, the young guys are sick of being lectured to by the old guys and this is causing a real problem.

Another note, injuries could really hurt the C's again this year. KG was supposed to be day to day with a thigh bruise and Doc said he could be out up to 10 more days. Pierce had another operation to clean out more s*** from his knee, and there is no time table for his return. Daniels is out for the long run. Rondo is constantly playing with some nagging him.

Cheap f***s.

They didn't want to guarantee his contract. If he clears waivers, he may be back on a ten day contract.

Oh well. I hope he gets picked-up.

I've always liked Lester, I used to follow him closely throughout college. He was talented enough to play at UNC, but always had awful personal issues bringing him down. It looked like he had everything cleaned up and was headed in the right direction, and was playing pretty well in his limited looks. I hope we see him back and he can put it all together here and turn into an effective bench player.

I don't know much about him, actually. I haven't followed the Celtics, or anyone, as I have no TV. Suckitude!

I'm at school alone on a winter session class, and I actually have 3 TVs rolling in front of me at all times right now. It's f***ing awesome.

I can agree with this. He had a rough go for most of the last 8-9 years and stuck it out. He is an athletic stud (fast, quick, strong). He may not have the best mind for the game.

But there have been many successful players in the NBA who were not that bright.

I hope he is back with the Celts or gets a shot on a team where he can get some minutes.

He has to be better than Sebastian Telfair!

This game is retarded:

Tie game, C's ball, inbound to Ray, tries to put it on the floor, Wade dunks it with .6 left

C's inbounding, alleyoop to Rondo is good.

Overtime.

Holy f***.

That does not make any sense.

Meant to type Wade dunks it, I apparently didn't feel like typing "Wade" though.

edit: ......obviously........

edit2: no reason for the Celtics to win this game. rondo may have played one of his best games in a celtics uniform.
