Like most of you I'm pretty stoked for the opener @ Cleveland tonight. Would love to spoil it for them.

And Glen Davis... there are no words. Ridiculous.

Here's to #18 going up this season.

Should be an interesting year. I want to see how Shaq and Lebron do. As long as KG is healthy we should be in good shape.

Assuming you don't know what the circumstances were here.

C's are gonna underachieve, win 60 (+/- 5 depending on health), don't want to make any judgments on playoffs yet because we've yet to see what Orlando's deep team is going to bring to the table this year, and how Cleveland looks with Shaq, but anything from a 2nd round exit to a NBA Championship is entirely possible.

In a nutshell, defending himself and his girlfriend from a drunken dipshit. Globe and Herald are finally starting to report that now. Not sure how you can blame him in that kind of situation?

I read on the Globe earlier that he was in a fight with a former LSU teammate. When I read that it made me think he was acting like an immature dumbass. Just going by what I read. Now that this has come out, not so much. When did this happen? Makes me wonder who the drunk dude was.

Herald:

A shirtless Glen “Big Baby” Davis and his “best friend” Shawn Bridgewater - a former teammate of the Celtics forward on the University High basketball team in Baton Rouge, La. - emerged bleeding from their noses after a fight inside a black SUV in Waltham Sunday morning, the Herald has learned.

The incident apparently fractured Davis’ right thumb just two days before tonight’s season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Davis could be lost for an extended period of time.

According to the police report obtained by the Herald, Davis claimed his allegedly drunken childhood pal was “continually bothering his girlfriend,” Jenna Gomez.

Glen:

“I was defending myself,” Davis said in a phone interview with Yahoo! Sports. “I wasn’t just fighting. I feel like I let my team down by breaking my hand. I let my team down trying to defend myself. I have to make better decisions on how I choose my friends.”

Really?

Davis is a 24 year old "Man" and should know enough to avoid situations like this. It is just not acceptable in a civilized society. Add to that, he is in the public eye being employed by a very prominent organization. Theere is no way something like this would ever go unnoticed.

He has done something really stupid. He has embarrassed himself and compromised the structure and near term future of his team.

I hope he does get suspended. Without pay.

Please. Spare me the 'holier than thou' rant.

s*** happens sometimes. Should he have known better than to get in a fight? Sure, that's more than fair to say. But who are you to sit there and say what he should have done, not even knowing what the circumstances were that evening, aside from what little info Glen has said through the media? Hypothetically, I'm sure if you were sitting there with someone and they called your wife a **** you wouldn't just sit there and let it happen (not saying this was the situation).

Should he be suspended? Absolutely, as should any athlete who engages in a dangerous off the field/court/rink activity.

Its also not acceptable in a civilized society for a drunken dipshit to harass your girlfriend.

Heh

Yeah, s*** happens in the form of a guy acting like a high school student?

If someone calls your wife a ****, does it mean you go apeshit and start acting like a kid, and throwing punches? Seriously, be an adult and do what an adult would do to handle the situation, which is not get violent and throwing fists. I know I'm a chick, so I guess that makes me ineligible for this conversation or whatever, because a man's pride is a man's pride, but I know I wouldn't go apeshit over something like that anymore.

It's his best friend, they're in his SUV, this is not some random stranger, Davis is an idiot, and "holier than thou" sure beats "Apologetic fan".

The fact that he's an NBA player shouldn't take away from the fact that he assaulted a completely intoxicated person because he said some stupid s***, and there are a million other ways to handle that situation.

If he was just "Defending his girlfriend" why'd he come out and apologize like he did something wrong? I know why: Because he did something wrong.

Like what, sit them down and try to reason with them? They are completely intoxicated, like you said.

Media pressure. He doesn't necessarily mean he's sorry, he's saying his sorry so he/the team/the league doesn't get negative publicity.

We're really calling a guy a high-schooler because a drunken f***tard decided to harass his girlfriend and he didn't take it? Holy f***ing s*** do we live in a sad sad world.

He's 24 years old. The guy was drunk and said something stupid. At that point you really just have to be the adult.

What are you talking about? The fact that he's drunk somehow gives him a better reason to assault this guy? He's DRUNK. It's really just that simple. You be the adult, you grow up by the time you're 24, you don't beat some guys ass because he's drunk and insulted your girlfriend.

You don't reason with them. You let them talk their s*** and ignore them. Again, this isn't someone off the street, it's his friend, yet another reason to handle the situation differently.

What makes this a sad sad world is people who want to resolve everything with violence.

I call ********.

If it was really an incident that was absolutely, clearly not his fault, he would have made some attempt to save face.

Yes, I'm sure Davis hit him because the guy casually said something stupid in his drunken euphoria.

No he wouldn't. Because he would lose, because there would always be people there bleating out 'BE AN ADULT!! BE AN ADULT!!' and say he acted like a child. Why fight the battle you can't win?

Really? How should he handle it, then? As I said, I think we can rule out sit him down and discuss it, since he's... drunk. What do you do about it? If Davis reacted this way, it was obviously an issue and something that needed dealing with. You think Davis went into that night planning and wanting to assault his drunken childhood friend as soon as he slipped up? I'd say, using common sense and some basic concepts of psychology, that this was something that needed to be dealt with, and Davis's options for doing so were kinda limited.

Who said casually anything? Don't put words in my mouth

Glen.Davis.Is.Twenty.Four.Years.Old.

Not.Seven.Teen.

It's a friend of his who said something dumb because he was intoxicated, you just ignore the idiot and be the bigger person. Beating someone up because they insulted your lady while drunk is something that you'd do if you were 17, or had the mentality of a 17-year-old

Ummm, maybe you ignore it, because they're drunk? You deal with it when they have their wits about them? Violence is for little kids

Have you never ever dealt with a drunk person before?

Drunk people are relentless and usually won't stop agitating people until they get punched in the face, and (I can only speculate) that's probably what Glen did, and his friend realized he was being out of line, so it stopped.

You really think Davis had the mentality that he was going to drop his old buddy at the first sign of trouble? Obviously, this was something unacceptable that needed to be dealt with. Its entirely that Davis was, honestly, defending himself and his girlfriend.

No, they obviously are receptive to the idea that they're going overboard. Because they are completely alert and with the program when they are drunk. GIT UR FAKTS STRAIT

If they're talking s***, you just don't bother with them. If they're getting physical, that's when you put them in their place physically. Again, if it was just him talking s***, you just gotta ignore it and be the bigger person.

Well, i hope the dining hall opens soon and has buffalo wings and potatoes wedges.

No one here want's to get into a flame war about a stupid, inconsequential story about a young man who punched his friend. Really.

Suffice it to say, there are cultural , generational, and possibly moral differences at play.
