Well of course. When you break the rules it doesn't pay to drag it out. I feel it did need saying though. Dipre's getting himself a bit of a reputation as the board's champion flamethrower' date=' sooner or later someone was going to call him on it. And frankly, I've taken worse than a bit of "drive by smug" in my time on this forum. I figure the number of times Dipre's called me a retard, an idiot, etc. give me the right to make a at least couple points about it, and about him.[/quote']

Ah yes.

Carry on Doiji. And please don't edit the posts like you usually do, since i'm quickly QFT here just in case.

And that "reputation" is made up, just like almost everything you say.

The last 3 times the Mods have had to intervene to break up a fight, the common denominator was you.

I don't think I'm exaggerating, and I'm sure as heck not making anything up.

EDIT: It's about to be the last four, too, unless I shut this down, so I will.

Really, why would you start s*** just so you can accuse someone else of starting s***?

Anyhow, McGwire hit .263 and had an OBP near .400. How's he a one-dimensional hitter again? .263 is a decent batting average, it's once you get into the low .250s it gets pretty ugly, and .400 OBP, yeah, the man gets on base. His ability to not get an out somehow doesn't make him un-one-dimensional. I don't understand that in the least

Maybe the guy looks at like this: His OBP is directly related to him hitting so many home runs.If he didn't hit home runs his on base percentage would be a lot lower from not getting walked as much out of fear, making him somoene with a .263 AVg and maybe like a .330 OBP.

Also, lol at everyone using AVG here when all the time people say its a useless stat with no meaning and it's outdated, etc.

McGwire sucked ass.

He had a very unremarkable career until he took enough PEDs to start setting HR records.

f*** the pizza faced looser.

PIZZA FACED LOOSER....hahahahahaha:lol:

Because batting average shows what percentage is an actual hit, in this case, it's actually useful for disproving the statement that everything was either a home run or a walk. Typically, when dealing with someone like Delmon Young or Gonzo, you have to look at OBP and not batting average, because they may hit around the .290 range, but then their OBP is only 10 points higher.

This makes no sense.

He got on base because he had a good eye, and besides, since we're making stuff up, maybe if he didn't hit all the homers and got thrown strikes all the time, maybe he smacks 3,000 hits and hits for a .330 lifetime BA with a .394 OBP?

It's always been said that BA is a flawed stat but it can be used to back up certain parts of your argument, but you can never use it as the basis, again, you're better than that, please don't make stuff up.

My post was hypothetical. I do not believe that if he didn't hit home runs he would of been a terrible hitter.

But the problem is that hypothetically, he didn't necessarily had to be worse, maybe he sprayed balls everywhere and hit doubles like a mo-fo.

Get my drift?

I dont care how much of a power threat you are a .390+ OBP isn't just given to you, and why do people want to take the HRs out of the equation? those are definitely important, I think he can make a pretty good hitting coach he has a decent eye and knows how to hit well, he struck out alot but thats bound to happen when you are swinging for the fences, would you rather have Vlad Guerrero as a pitching coach (just an example) who swings at everything just cause he has a better avg.? having a better avg. and even a better OBP during your career doesnt necisarrily mean you are going to be a better teacher, personally Id rather have someone like a JD Drew (in the future) as a hitting coach because he is a very versatile hitter, and of course the one player Id pick before anyone else to be a hitting coach is Ken Griffey Jr.

sorry for the erratic rambling.
