The talk among Boston media people is that Bay will not be back.

It's not the $/yr, but the length of the contract that is at issue.

Which is stupid. The guy's what, 31? That's not exactly Old Man Methuselah.

I bet you anything Holliday signs for the same or more years than Bay does.

Maybe they're thinking of going after Holliday instead of Bay.

Which is why it's stupid. Why are we playing musical left fielders when we have one that we already know can get the job done and be a productive bat in the AL East?

The marginal gain on Holliday over Bay is ridiculously small.

Except for age and the always awesome batting average, yes.

One year of age and performance in a stat you constantly ridicule.

Why exactly are you arguing this again?

I'm not arguing, i'm agreeing with you.

Jesus Christ.

Keeping Bay and adding Hanley while playing Youk at 1st full time and Lowell at 3rd full time as well with V-Mart catching sends this lineup into elite status.

However, getting Hardy and someone who can actually scare opposing pitchers would also be pretty good.

I'm fine with either to be honest.

I think we should get either Bay or Holliday again. Bay is one of those guys you have to look at OBP for. His average is a mere .267 but his .OBP is strangely off the charts and he's hit a lot of homeruns. So getting him back would not be bad...

If we could get both him and Holliday, I would love it.

It's not strangely off the charts man.

His OBP's really high because he sees a lot of pitches and takes a lot of walks.

I think Jose Reyes has a better shot at being available than Tulo does.

Which doesn't I hasten to add, mean I actually think Reyes is definitely available. Just that the Mets have more reason to trade Jose than the Rockies have to trade Tulowitzki.

Interesting point.

Sean McAdam stated just last week that he believed the Mets would be selling and that the Sox would be a player for Reyes.

Is it possible that McAdams know something that TS members do not?

Recycled info.

That rumor has been going around for months.

Buckley, McAdam, and Merloni were unanimous in this view.

I guess that they no nothing compared to a talksox member.

And while we're on the subject of left field, and the Mets' problems, I wouldn't mind in the slightest if this team decided to make a play for Carlos Beltran.

Because he will make the Red Sox so much better. What don't you get about that?

Seriously, there's only one superstar young SS better than Tulowitski, and he happens to play for a team with a history of moving talent, no matter how good, once they start getting expensive. While I don't like to partake in wild speculation, he's probably the place to start the discussion.

After reading this thread I understand your frustrations with me;)

Tulo is going nowhere.

Buchholz is going nowhere. That proverbial ship has sailed.

Hanley could be dealt considering the history of his current Organization.

Hardy is most likely to be available. He's down, so his price should be more palatable. Like I have said before, He's a 25+ HR threat that plays good defense. I think he would fit well in this lineup.

I read recently an article saying Stephen Drew might be available. Depending on the asking price, I could get on board with him being the SS. You would get the added bonus of some sibling rivalry:D

There are some more names out there like Escobar(sp) in ATL. They might make him available.

FA you got,

Orlando Cabrera MIN (A)

Bobby Crosby OAK

Adam Everett DET

Khalil Greene STL

John McDonald TOR

Marco Scutaro TOR (A)

Miguel Tejada HOU B

Jack Wilson * SEA B

Truly uninspiring. I'd rather have Agon back on a 1 year deal. And re evaluate at the TDL.

If it came to that, I'd take a look at Everett or Tejada before I went back to Gonzo. I just don't trust him to stay healthy.

You expect Tejada to play good defense at SS? This teams D is already bad enough. If it comes down to a 1 year stop gap, give me the guy that can play D.

Posted
You trust Everett to stay healthy?

Even with recent years accounted for, he's done a better job of it than Gonzalez. And at least he'll actually cost what he's worth instead of 4 times more.

:lol::lol::lol:

You're funny.

I vote for Tulowitzki. He's good offensively and defensively, he can hit 30+ homers and make great grabs. He could play well in our lineup.

JJ Hardy only hit 25 homeruns twice in his career (if you count 24 in 08 and 26 in 07). This year he's been horrible, a batting average LESS than A-Gon. And for those of you .OBP guys, his .OBP hasn't been that high anytime in his career. His highest is .343 in 2008.

As for Stephen Drew, the guy really isn't a good hitter and likewise has not had a high .OBP. But believe it or not, his career .OBP is higher than JJ Hardy's.

Bottom line is JJ Hardy is not the answer. He's not even that good. His questionable season this year and low .OBP can tell you that. We need to get Tulo or Hanley. Or even resign Cabrera or Gonzo (at least he can field great and he's hit the ball well with us). But Tulo or Hanley are the best options.

All the numbers behind the numbers suggest that Hardy hit into a lot of bad luck this year and should bounce back. Whether he comes all the way back I dunno, but he should hit better than this.

Again with the batting average?

I used .OBP too. Hardy's was never that high. His highest is .343 and his career is in the low .300s.

And where are these numbers? Let me note that Hanley Ramirez has never had any "bad" numbers.
