I know the argument. Kotchman is a better economic signing with 3 years etc. etc. I don't buy it - that type of mentality has gotten us in trouble. I want my GM to go for the best player when it is well known that LaRoche is a second halfplayer.

Read this. 1st/2nd half splits don't mean anything.

I don't buy that there will not be regular playing time for him. Just have to sit Tek a little bit more androtate Lowell/Papi at DH.

The only reason Kotchman is playing now is because Youkilis is hurt and Martinez is in Cleveland. He wouldn't be playing nearly as much here in Boston, and you know that to be true.

That doesn't even consider the NL being a vastly inferior league.

Players like Kotchman are dime a dozen. Hell - he is not even a very good defensive first baseman - I have seen better.

Thats my logic - I know yours different.

Name them.

Baldelli is out for Anderson. What's up' date=' Baldelli can't play more than innings these days?[/quote']

Anderson's a better defensive OF and the LHP is out of the game.

Do you think getting Kotchman for LaRauch was a good trade?

Do you think getting Kotchman for LaRauch was a good trade?

Yes, especially since I can spell LaRoche.

Look, I know LaRoche has hit well since going to ATL, but he would not be hitting that well here. Kotchman is an .800 OPS player with tremendous defensive skills who is locked up for two more seasons at a very affordable rate.

LaRoche would be playing as much as Kotchman is now and he is a FA at the end of the season.

Now, refute my other points.

Its a negligible trade. It doesn't matter. Neither players would be impact players on this team.

Looks good to me. :D

Yes because Kotchman is better suited to come off the bench.

I am against trading a starter for a bench player - but that's just me.

Moving on..
