being in a starting position on an WS team dosent mean you're good

Yeah, probably thanks to his teammates.

 

The guy sucks. If he was someone other than Mike Gallego, he would be considered garbage by you, but you need him to prove a point.

 

He was well below average. That's putting it mildly.

In Gallego's 13 year career, he amassed more than 500 PA once. IE, he was a career backup/utility player. Alex Cora. Garbage.

 

He was 55 runs better than replacement level over his whole career, and 53 of those came in 2 seasons. So, for 11 years, he was replacement level. Garbage.

 

Eric Hinske has a chance to play in 3 straight WS and win 2 rings in 3 years. Every time he appeared in the lineup, a700 would moan about "Stinkske". I wouldn't place too much value on what Gallego did there.

That was not what I said. That was part of his resume, and he was a starter on 3 consecutive WS teams. That's different than being a starter for one year. Good teams are strong up the middle. A team that goes to the World Series three years in a row is strong up the middle. Their middle IF's may not have been offensive weapons, but they were certainly very good in their defensive roles. The A's with Henderson, McGwire, Canseco, and Lansford didn't need offense. Billy martin was the starting second baseman on several Yankee World Series teams. He was a light hitter, and he wasn't and All Star either, but I wouldn't conclude that he was garbage. He was a very good role player.
