I think they are just really trying to limit his pitches, but I'll take it if it makes them go into the pen for the next 6 innings.

Dipre's priority is to stabilize his blood sugar (while loosing weight, of course). Calories are not the biggest concern. He has to limit his intake of simple carbs to about 17-20 grams a day. This will take the burden off his pancreas and alow him to enter ketosis(sp). At this point the weight will leave quite quickly.

Problem with such a low calorie regime is maintaining blood sugar levels.

 

It fluctuates too much, so i've been advised to keep a 1,600-1,800 minimum-maximum plan, of which only 15 % max can come from carbs.

 

It's annoying the hell out of me.

It's an innings limit, regardless of pitch count. I think the way the Yankees see it is that the rosters expand in a couple days, so they'll have the extra guys out in the bullpen to handle the work load.
