No, but I didn't think Buchholz being able to give the Sox a chance to win was out of the realm of possibility at all, especially since we lit up Romero the last time we saw him

I don't think Gom was saying that he gave them a chance to win was the surprise, but how well he pitched (Mitre too).

 

What's funny is that Buchholz is one of those guys you really shouldn't be surprised if he pitches that well. He's got video game stuff when it's on. Guess "game watching" isn't all it's cracked up to be, because you don't see that in a stat sheet.

Dude was sick last night.

 

It is obvious (to me at least) that he's just putting together what will be his MLB repetoir. He's added that really nice (though still somewhat wild) slider to the mix, and he was keeping hitters guessing all night. He can throw it hard with really nice bite, or he can take something off it and it acts more like a sharp cutter. Mix that in with a changeup as good as any in baseball and his sick and rarely-seen curveball, and he's got the makings not just of a good pitcher but a bonafide #1 on a very, very good team.

I think Buchholz is a far better pitcher then Mitre.. And most of us should know that Buchholz is very capable of pitching the way he did yesterday. Don't forget he has pitched a no no before.
