I kinda feel the same way. I really expect a short outing from wake tonight. We've slugged our way back into ballgames each of the last 2 nights though so I think the bats bail him out. Especially against a lefty where we don't lack for righthanded power.

If Lowell, Youkilis, Martinez, and Bay are all in the lineup I think we win this. Especially if Ortiz is not.

Gavin Floyd is righthanded champ.

Lowell's turn to sit

Mike Lowell will be out of the starting lineup tonight against White Sox righthander Gavin Floyd, with lefthanded-hitting Casey Kotchman starting at first base, Kevin Youkilis at third, and Victor Martinez behind the plate for the Red Sox.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona revealed tonight's lineup alterations this afternoon during his weekly conversation with the hosts of WEEI's "The Dale and Holley Show."

Martinez, who was acquired at the July 31 trading deadline, will make his first stab at catching knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, who will be making his first appearance since July 8.

Wakefield, who is 11-3 with a 4.31 ERA, has been sidelined with a back problem that cause complications in his calf muscle and has been on the disabled list since July 21.

To make room for Wakefield on the roster, the Red Sox designated righthander Enrique Gonzalez for assignment. It is the second time this month Gonzalez has been DFA'd

I wish Kotteras was going to be on the bench, just in case.....

I love Wake and his little belly paunch...I'm glad to see him back. I know he probably won't be playing ball too much longer, so I relish the time he has left. Here's hoping he'll have a decent outing, even if he doesn't manage stay in for too many innings.

...yes, let's hope V-Mart can catch him.

And of course....RAINBOWS and UNICORNS.

Ortiz sucks, lulz.

That was to make room for Wakefield. I have yet to hear anything about Wagner today.

I heard he was going to join the team on thursday on Sports tonight last night.

Extra Bases shed some light on the topic I was wondering about

With Billy Wagner due to be placed on the Sox' roster tomorrow, there's no obvious roster move to be made. At the moment anyway, there's no Red Sox injured enough to warrant placing him on the disabled list, though that could change.

So who's in jeopardy?

It appears Brad Penny, who has been taken out of the rotation could be at risk to be designated for assignment. But there will be questions to be answered especially tonight when Tim Wakefield makes his much anticipated return. If Wakefield pitches well and his calf and back are not issues, then there would no chance the Sox would put Wakefield back on the disabled list. If Wakefield struggles with his calf, there's a good chance Wakefield would have to go back on the DL.

The Sox have Daisuke Matsuzaka due back to the major league roster by Sept. 8 at the earliest. The Sox also have Paul Byrd in Pawtucket and will be a Sept. 1 call-up.

Penny has certainly struggled badly. Would the Sox cut ties with him?

The next 24 hours should provide the answer.

I still think sending Bard down until September 1st is the most logical option but we'll see I guess

I think it all depends on how wakes feels after this game

if he feels fine, Penny is gone IMO

if not then he's back on the DL and Penny stays

Tim Wakefield makes his first start since July 8, and Victor Martinez will catch the knuckleballer for the first time. Mike Lowell begins the game on the bench, with Casey Kotchman starting at first base.

Also, Billy Wagner won't join the club until tomorrow, as has been the plan since he was acquired from the Mets yesterday. There were reports elsewhere this afternoon that he would arrive today.

Roster questions

Not giving you s***. Just pointing out that you posted the same article I posted three posts above yours. But I've posted the lineup a few times after you have anyway so I'm in no position to give s***.

To be honest I'm worried about how Timmy is gonna fair in this game.

I hope I'm wrong though because the Red Sox cant afford to be losing much games and even more so to to chisox so fingers crossed.
