Really the Rangers should want to lose so the red sox can sail with the WC lead.

If the Rangers were to go into the Playoffs with WC lead they would have to face the yanks and we all know they would get demolished. lol

I'm sure they would like to make the Playoffs no matter if it's from the WC or division champs. They can worry about who they play after they get in.

Last time I checked' date=' the Yankees losing is also good for us. Can we please stop acting like the division is already sealed. We still have 36 games to play.[/quote'] The division isn't sealed but I'm more worried about winning the WC.
Winning the division is priority #1' date='[/quote'] No, winning the WC is top priority!
the race isn't over' date=' thus the Yankees losing would be the better result for the team.[/quote'] Really?
I'm sick of this "I'll settle with the Wild Card' date=' let the Yankees take the division, and root for them to beat the Rangers". How the *%$@ do you talk yourself into rooting for the team leading your @#$%ed division.[/quote'] because, if the Yanks win 2 and we sweep the White Sox that will give us a 3.5 Game lead in the WC.:D

The point is not winning the division, but how a so-called Red Sox fan can bring himself to cheer for the Yanks.

It's disgraceful, and whoever does it is deserving of a very fashionable pink hat.

so lets say its the last game of the season and the ONLY way the red sox make the playoffs is if the yanks beat their opponant that day .

I can guarantee you would be cheering for them to win the game

I wouldn't have to cheer for the Yanks because they would drop that game like a bad habit.

Priority 1 is winning ballgames, because if you don't do that, you can't make the playoffs anyway.

There's a difference between rooting for the Yankees to win, and rooting for the team who is playing the Yankees to lose. I'd never root for the Yankees to win, but I'm definitely rooting for the Rangers to lose. It's just a coincidence that they are playing each other, and my desire for the Rangers to lose is higher than for the Yankees to lose right now.

And of course when some of us want the yanks to win they fold like no other. <_>

Damn straight!

Like you can't make up a 6 game deficit in a month.

They gained 9 on us in August.

Why the f*** can't we do it to them in September?

I don't think anyone is saying it can't happen, but its more likely the Sox are going to be fighting for the WC at this point. If the Sox play like we all know they can, i would not be socked if they came back and win the division.

IMO, i really believe that the Sox just have to get in the playoff because they have the pitching to go very far. With that said, we need the Yankees help to beat the Rangers to help pad the lead in the WC race. Its not like we are all sitting at home watching the Yankees game and rooting for them like we do the Sox. We are just hoping they win, so it will help the Sox out in the long run.

Sure, now no one was "rooting for the yanks to win" they were "rooting for the rangers to lose".

If ya rooted for the Yanks, grow a pair, admit it, and put your pink hat on.

Oh lord!

You know if the Rangers keep winning it COULD hurt the Sox. Do you not want to make the playoffs???

Are you saying if the Sox need the Yankees to win two games at the end of the season so the Sox had a chance to get into the playoffs, you wouldn't hope for them to win to help the Sox????

Actually I was rooting for the Rangers to take 2 out of 3, that way we gain a game on texas, and 2 on New York.

people are blowing this way out of proportion

I want the red sox to make the playoffs, whatever it takes to get there

This. Nothing else matters.

Thank you! That is all we want. I don't care if they win the division or the WC (at this point) because we all know you can win either way you make it.

Red Sox fans don't root for the Yankees.

Period.

If it is going to HELP the sox get in the playoffs you do...

Please, stop acting like you ALL (some of you) wouldn't if it came down to the Sox not getting in the playoffs.

The Sox lead the WC and don't need the Yanks to beat anybody to make the playoffs. And they are only 5.5 games out of the division lead. And it's August. There is absolutely no justification for a Red Sox fan to be rooting for the Yankees to win.

I don't believe in worrying about teams out of the division. We need to take care of our own business, not leave it up to someone else. It's like what happened to the Patriots last season. You could argue all you want, but in the end, the team didn't win the games it had to and that is the reason they missed the playoffs, not because of some other team lost a game.

My attitude is always division first. We need to get our business done and root AGAINST our division rivals. Yes, we can also get in the playoffs as a wild card team, but jesus, that is supposed to be a BACKUP plan. Lets not just give up on plan A already. It really shouldn't matter what Texas does at this point, we just need to keep winning and hope that the Yankees lose. We don't NEED to gain ground on Texas, we already are in the lead. We DO need to gain lots of ground on the Yankees, though, so why the hell are people rooting for them!

I guess a prerequisite for being a tr00 Sox fan is to hate the Yankees, unconditionally, and view them as something more than a division opponent. I should be thinking of them as inhuman scumbags who helped orchestrate the anthrax attacks.

I remember being 10 years old and having that attitude. Then I grew pubic hair and realized that all my aimless Yankee hating was a waste of energy.

This thread is why I f***ing HATE fanboys.

I'm also for one for get into the playoffs any way possibe. Division is really just a bonus and bragging right type deal.

Oh that's good. Let's apply this to other division races, just for the hell of it. The LA Angels always seem to have the division race locked up by mid-July. Does the second place team, who happens to be in the playoff hunt but double-digit games out of first, need to be more concerned about the Angels every night, or their wild card competition?

What douchebags we are, huh? Just caring about our playoff chances and hoping the Yankees win if it improves said chances... what heresy.

Rooting for the Yanks isn't going to change the outcome of the games; so really, what does it matter?

All I know is it's August and the Sox lead the WC. And they don't need the Yanks to beat anybody to make the playoffs. Here's hoping the Yanks lose em all.

Let me put it this way, sport:

In what division do the Rangers play?

In what division do the Yankees play?

By that logic, seeing as we're only 5.5 games out in the division. In August. And we still have games left with the Yankees.Who should be our priority?

Wow,logic.

It's awesome when you use it.

This is about where I am. First and foremost I root for the Sox to win. If that happens, what happens in the NYY game is immaterial, so I want the Yankees to lose every night. That said, I won't begrudge anyone for rooting for this team's playoff chances if that makes them comfortable.
