Frodo is reporting this huh? Wagner will be in Boston tonight;)

If he goes to Boston great. If not oh well.

Wouldn't be surprised if Papelbon's dumbshit comments factored into it. Still can't believe he said that.

I remember seeing Jon Heyman on Twitter writing something like "the opinion in the Red Sox organization that matters the least is Papelbon's"

Anyway, its less than an hour until the deadline for a trade and all we're hearing is that it's dead so it probably is dead

Wagner is doing what Rice was complaining about with today's athletes--he's putting greed first.

Ideally, he wants to take a vacation the rest of this season, preserve his arm, and come back next year as a free agent looking for a rich closing opportunity. What he wants to do is nothing. That was probably what his agent recommended, and agents are all about money.

Consider that Wagner's coming back from major surgery and is not young. I've heard some speculation that he just wasn't sure he'd last through October without an offseason to rebuild himself a little. He wants to finish the last few weeks healthy and then go for October again next year when he has a better chance to be healthy for it. It makes some sense to me.

Ok. So they have 15 minutes to make the deal. Any guesses to who breaks the story? Espn and Fox sports both have stories about how the deal is dead. The Globe seems to be the only ones thinking it's still alive. We should know soon I guess.

I'd go with the Globe. If there is a deal, shortly after 1:30 we'll hear that a Press Conference has been called or there will be a press release.

some guy from Newsday just reported an announcement is coming shortly, looks like the deal is done (meaning Wagner is coming to Boston)

EDIT: David Lennon, Mets beat writer for Newsday, on Twitter: "Announcement coming shortly on Wagner. Looks like the trade to Boston is going to happen. #Mets."

Wagner apparently reconsidered with some serious prodding from the Mets. He thinks now it will help him more in free agency next year to pitch now for the Sox. I'm betting the Mets will be happy to just get rid of his salary. No players.

1:34 p.m. update: A major league source told the Globe's Nick Cafardo that the Red Sox and Mets are on the verge of completing a trade that would send two mid-range minor leaguers to New York and land reliever Billy Wagner in Boston. A source told Tony Massarotti that the Red Sox will not pick up Wagner's $8 million option for 2010 but will retain the right to offer Wagner arbitration, meaning they would get two compensatory draft picks.

Very nice. Can't remember the last hard-throwing lefty we had in the pen. I don't think Embree counts.

Now we just have to wait and see who the players we are giving up are' date=' and how much money we have to fork over.[/quote']

SI_JonHeyman#redsox agreed to pay the rest of wagner's salary, which is $2-mil-plus, just for the five weeks.
