VMart has a .920 OPS since joining the Red Sox. He's batting 3rd. He is at least as good, probably better catcher at this point, than Varitek is. Tek is showing signs of his age in the 2nd half. They are stealing him blind. He has a "neck" injury right now, so VMart will probably catch for awhile.

It's obvious that one major way the Sox can improve their sagging offense is to replace Tek with VMart, and make Tek the backup. This had to happen sooner or later--and it should be sooner. If they want to make the playoffs, they need their best team out there. And that means Tek on the bench.

While an improved offense is not going to catch the Yankees (that one is all about pitching--which the Yankees are better at right now--thanks to Dice-K), it might get them into the playoffs. And if Buchholz can be a stopper, you never know.

Yea' date=' but Tek still isn't a bad option against lefties. He's got an .855 OPS against them this season.[/quote']

April/March:

.881

May:

.824

June:.750

July: .736

August: .378

The dude is getting old.

Beckett and V-Mart's first outing together was uninspiring. Hopefully 2nd time works better. Buchholz and V-Mart seem to have something going though.

That's a load of s*** though. It's not as if Martinez threw down a sign for a hanging breaking ball.

I wasn't putting it solely on VMart. Beckett was off. I think it would take a couple starts for them to find a grove.

VMart should be the starter. but should be seeing time at 1B a couple times a week as well.

To find a groove, Beckett must throw the curve to the lower part of the plate with break.

Thigh-high hangers clearly set back the finding of grooves.

V-Mart should be the catcher, I know people say he's not a good defensive catcher, but his hitting makes up for it. Besides, I haven't seen him make any mistakes defensively.

I'm fine with the rotation they have right now with Varitek-Martinez-Youkilis-Lowell-Papi switching between C-1B-3B-DH. Sox are lucky to have so many versatile players.

I don't think "lucky" is the right word. Versatility seems to be something Theo prizes when he goes after players.

Meaning that if this is luck, it's the kind you make for yourself.

Lol, alright.

"Sure is good to have versatile players on the Red Sox"

It's a shame there's no opposite of a DH. You know like how the DH hits and doesn't field, it'd be great to have a position where Varitek fields but doesn't hit.

Would love to just make the lineup and the players in the field independent of each other. Your 9 best hitters in the lineup, your best fielders at every position. It's the next evoltion of the sport.
