Paul Byrd is set to take the mound for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday.

The start will help determine whether or not Byrd is ready to help the big league club. "It's one of those things where I'm pretty close, so the hitters will let me know tonight," Byrd said. The 38-year-old had a 4.78 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in eight starts for the Red Sox last season.

Well, it'll be interesting to see how he does. He could very easily take Tazawa's spot until one of Wakefield or Matsuzaka is ready (could be 2-3 starts away).

I'd love to see him do well and come up the Show and help us out, but I just don't know how realistic that is.

I heard that he did well tonight. Was this his first rehab appearance. I wonder if there is any chance that he takes Tazawa's start against the Yanks on Sunday.

I wish they would flip Lester and Penny so lester could open the Yankee series.

With the way the kid's pitching right now, if he gets that arm slot under control from the stretch, he's gonna be a force.

Ya Buck has certainly made his case for being the 3rd man in this rotation, Wake is traditionally shaky in the cooler weather and DiceK doesnt appear to be capable of pitching this summer.

The way the young guy has manned up against the class of the league is very impressive and hes not leaving the rotation unless hes hurt.

I like Clay way better then Byrd and i think Clay's has the numbers to prove it.

If Byrd comes back, he's not sitting anyone down.

I'd prefer Byrd starting tonite over Penny. The Yankees saved their best starters for this series. The Red Sox did not. After winning 8 in a row against NY, they certainly have been giving them generous opportunities to catch up.

How many start has Byrd had since the Sox signed him?

he made his second with the PawSox yesterday allowing 3 H and 1 ER in 7 IP

He somehow always find away to get it done. It's always ugly, but it works.
