I was very pissed when I first heard about the Sox picking up AGon, but I take back everything I said. He has played very well and he D has been way above par. With that being said, I know we pick him up for his D, but what has really shocks me is, he is batting over .280 and I believe with the Reds he was hitting around .200 or something. Maybe the playoff hunt woke him up.

that or the Nick Green effect, he looks awesome now but he will probably slow down and by the time playoffs roll around he'll be back to being the glovey mcnoodlebat he has always been, but maybe Fenway is a good park for him, I dont know what type of "hitter" he is but even if he is a pull hitter his numbers will eventually fall back down into suckitude.

I can live with Glovey McNoodlebat as long as he can occasionally provide something at the dish and the defense is good enough. Gonzo has as good a chance as anyone of bein tha guy.

That said, definitely much rather go after someone who can do both.

I say we keep AGonz and Lowrie around and hopefully Lowrie can finally start to show us something and if not Im fine with Gonzo starting, unless of course we have a shot at acquiring a great upgrade (HanRam, Tulowitzki, etc.) and I SERIOUSLY doubt that happens.

It's ok, you are all free to use it.

Given our disastrous stretch of luck with shortstops I'll take a guy who can at least defend.

I'd rather go with JJ Hardy than Alex Gonzalez but the truth is we could do a lot worse.

Back to Gonzalez.

I am still confused why people think Gonzalez is a long term option for the Red Sox.

Not a long-term option, but a one-year stopgap if nothing better comes along is the general sentiment.

I'm still not sold on this move. Yes' date=' it's nice depth, but the guy still has an awful OBP. Not a single walk in 23 games? .282 OBP? I guess that's the best we can do.[/quote']

You'd prefer Nick "Can he catch it??????" Green?

Anyway' date=' I think we're all hoping that the answer next year is Lowrie making the whole thing irrelevant.[/quote']

To bad Lowrie is not going to be the answer. I really don't see it. I hope the Sox go out and make a big deal.

Yeah, weve seen the "alot worse" over the past couple of seasons. Guys who cant hit or field. In fact, its been "alot worse" since A Gon left.

Take this for exactly what it's worth

Career UZR/150 at SS

Alex Gonzalez 6.3

Nick Green 8.1

If you are going to use UZR, why don't we look at Green's negative UZR numbers in 2009?
