Another dinger by Papi today. He loves to tease.

Papi's " tease" is a metaphor for the Sox season. Just enough to sustain our interest, and not enough ultimately to satisfy our desire for a championship.

So' date=' are you guys still ready to bench Papi?[/quote']

Depends. Will this continue, or will he fade out again? Cannot argue much though, as he clearly deserves the ABs as he is mashing right now.

Most homers in the AL since June 1st.

I guess what we are all going to be dealing with is a very hot or cold Papi. And not much in between. He's either going to hit the cover off the ball, or become a black hole.

Let's ride the wave right now.

for the past 10 weeks the man found his power yet he's still pressing at the plate as if he were trying to make the team as a rookie, he needs more patience while I think Drew needs to be more aggressive to improve our offense.

its safe to say without his hrs and rbi we would be looking up at Tampa and Texas this morning, outside Martinez the left side of our order is very weak and we have nothing in Rhode Island that indicates this will improve in the future.. I take it Chris Carter is a nothing or we'd have seen him by now and Lars Anderson is playing his way out of baseball hitting a mighty .240 against AA pitchin while slugging my sister in laws weight..

Papi is a below average offensive player. Like any other player, he'll have hot and cold streaks. However, his days of an average hitter, let alone an elite hitter, are gone.

Yet he has more hrs than any other al player in the last 10 weeks, he isnt the same as he was 2 years ago but hes still our best option for power from the port side.

He still makes Steinbrenner s*** his diapers every time NY sees him.

the drooling felon who now wears the medically prescribed short bus, blue helmet bites down hard every time the big man is up with money on the table.

I think he is going to crush you over the weekend.

Ya ya...the guy build a career on PEDs. He had no talent before' date=' and none now.[/quote']He's passed 18 drug tests since 2003. Those PEDs must have some carryover effect. You are bitter because he's crushed your guys so many times. And look out for him this weekend.

I am no longer worried about Ortiz...especially in Fenway.

As for the series...who knows? This series matters a lot more for you than it does for us. If we take 2 out of 3, or sweep, your chances of making that wild card get much slimmer.

I'm glad to here that you are not worried about him. It will make the pain more intense if it is unexpected. You've been warned.

It doesn't matter. As for passing the drug tests...well, so did Arod. If you still want to believe that Ortiz did it on red beans on rice, then I've got a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

At this point, it doesn't matter who we face. I wouldn't be all that upset if we got swept by Texas either. :harhar:

If the drug testing is that big of a farce that a scientific genius like Ortiz could avoid detection for 6 years, then I guarantee you that everyone is taking something... everyone, except the few rookies that can't afford the program.

Do you think Mo's longevity is completely natural? The guy is as good as he was during the World Championship days. Come on? No decline even in his late 30's? What about Jeter increasing his range at age 36? I have never heard of an athlete increasing his agility after hitting age 35, but he has. Check his Range ratings.

I never bought into the defensive matrices. I've seen him a lot at the park, and to me, his range is EXACTLY the same. The math isn't there yet. However, there are idiots who adhere to defensive matrices like they are God-given truths.

When you all of a sudden have better pitchers who are strikeout pitchers, his range increases. Whatever.

As for Mariano, his velocity has gone down. That's steady. His control has remained. Control pitchers last much longer, so I doubt Mo. Go look at Ortiz in Minnesota and then Boston. He put on at least 25 lbs of muscle. All Mo did was watch his bald spot increase.

Posada on the other hand, I'd be surprised if he didn't.

Ortiz getting caught with PEDs sure took you off your high horse didn't? I f***ING LOVE IT!

The only way Jeter could legitimately show this much improvement is if he'd been slack on the workouts in the years prior.

So either he was lazy before this year or he's on something IMHO.

Nope.

I think he is hitting better in the bottom part of the lineup. I'm sure the data will show that. Maybe some of it is mental. maybe he gets more pitches to hit in the bottom part of the order. I don't know. But he is hitting just enough right now for Tito to justify keeping him in there.

They still have a dlemma about improving their infield defense without sacrificing hitting. AGon should be a big defensive help at SS without decreasing the offense. VMart should replace Tek at catcher, as I suggested in the thread I just posted. Papi is now doing some damage hitting at the bottom part of the order. But what about 3B? Lowell is hitting, but is subpar right now defensively. Maybe Lowell platoons with Papi at DH, Youks plays 3B and Kotchman plays 1B. Ideally, you want Lowell at 3B and Youks at 1B.

He has more HRs than anyone (other than 1 player) since June 1st. If he's doing "just enough" to stay in the lineup, everyone else should be benched?

If Ortiz hits like he has been the last 5-6 games this is good, but if not this is our best lineup:

1) Ellsbury F

2)Pedroia 2B

3) VMart C

4)Youk 3B

5) Bay LF

6) Lowell DH

7)Drew RF

8) Kotchmen 1B

9) Gonzo SS

Kotchman over Ortiz? I think that would be a horrible mistake.

Yeah, he's well below elite. The man has a sub .800 OPS season out of the DH spot. He's playing good right now, but he was a terrible player for long stretches this season.
