I have heard a lot of talk about the offseason already and I thought we can talk about it all in here. Anything can be dicussed in here from possible trades/free agent signings to the Jason Bay situation and thoughts on free agent/trades and anything else to what you think that will improve the Sox. I know the year isn't over and im not giving up on the year by any means but this is just a place to dicuss howe we can improve this offseason.

Offseason talk is going to be tired enough by the end of the offseason without giving it a headstart at getting old.

Chapman isn't even blowing away the Cuban league' date=' which is about as good as low-A ball.[/quote']

But just imagine what he could be if someone could refine his mechanics.

I wouldn't pay $12 million+ to find out. There's a good chance that he winds up being Oliver Perez.

Well i can agree with that.

However, from what i saw from him in the WBC which, of course, is a SSS extraordinaire, that's a multi-million dollar arm with about the most inconsistent mechanics ever.

You can notice pitch-to-pitch.

If the Sox could get him cheap and turn him into a project i say got for it.

Well every investment looks favourable "if you can do it cheap". I believe the main criticism against signing Chapman is that it's too expensive, and therefore too risky. If you lessen the financial limitations, nearly every investment, or player in this scenario, becomes more reasonable.

With all due respect, that's like saying if we can sign John Lackey and Matt Holliday for cheap while resigning Beckett, let's totally do it. Similarly, I don't think anyone will argue with you to make the "investment" if the cost is really low.

That said, I agree with Crespo and I think the costs are extravagant when compared to the risks involved and probability of future production.

By "On the cheap" i meant not overpaying, chief.

You just made an enormous post stating the obvious.

Thanks.

Well my intent was to make an enormous post saying that you were stating the obvious. Then again I think it was obvious that you were stating the obvious, so technically by saying that you were stating the obvious, I was in fact, stating the obvious myself.

The cost wont be really low. He'll likely cost as much' date=' if not more than Strasburg[/quote']

Are you for real?

OMG.

Not if he's 26 he won't.

Not even if he's 21.

Chapman is not in the same universe as Strasburg in terms of overall stuff or development.

Keep in mind that Chapman is a Free Agent, meaning that he can negotiate with any team. Strasburg can only speak with the Nationals, and if something doesn't work he goes to an Independent League and can reenter the draft.

Chapman can deal with any team which should inflate the eventual paycheck due to competing teams.

I did. I never said Chapman was better. However, you can't ignore the differences in situations regarding the two players. That's like wondering why JD Drew gets paid more than Dustin Pedroia. While I agree that Strasburg is much better, you can't ignore that one is a Free Agent while the other was just drafted.

Again, it's not even close.

Strasburg will break records.

Chapman will be lucky if he breaks 10 mill.

He's certainly good enough. That's also assuming he can stay on the field. He's got Mark Prior written all over him.

Similar mechanics indeed.
