I dont think that is a valid comparison but whatever.

aside from Pujols how many 1st basemen do you think are better than Gonzo when you take in ballpark, division, team, etc. into account?

Pujols and Cabrera.

Tex is better.

the only reason i would put Tex up close to him is that he is a good switch hitter and he is far superior defensively but i still dont think he is quite as valuable as gonzo...

I think Gonzalez would put up 45+ homers a year in Fenway. The biggest problem is we don't need a 1B. We need a shortstop, an outfielder, and another consistent starter.

The only way we get Gonzalez is if Tek is done as our catcher or Papi is done at DH.

Switch hitter. Better defense. Better offensive numbers. Not sure where the disconnect is.

either could be called for and I say goodbye Capitain. (only question is who will be our Capitain now? Youk?)

I think Gonzos Power numbers would be above tex's at fenway but with all things considered i would put Gonzo and Tex in that second tier under Pujols and Cabrera. in other words they are both very close in value.

Guzman isn't the savior to this season. Don't waste our time' date=' money and future on someone like him.[/quote']

How dramatic! This is a stopgap SS for a year and two months at most, and some of you guys are projecting a catastrophy for the future of the franchise. It's a ridiculous over-reaction

I think you can find a way to trade Ortiz to a team looking to put asses in the seats and move Lowell to DH for his final season.

Park effect is something to consider' date=' but it absolutely does not mean that you can discount an obvious offensive difference. Also, Fenway is not pleasant on lefties either.[/quote']

Gonzales has a .950+ OPS AWAY from Petco.

Consider the fact that 90% of ML players have better home than road numbers.

About defense:

Tex's UZR and UZR/150: -0.4/-0.4

Gonzo's UZR/UZR/150: 3.4/3.2

Superior defense indeed.

You're seriously putting importance on something SoxFan#1 said?

I'm dissapointed in ya, Clint.

here is the scattering of Gonzos HR in Petco park if he can place them like that in that park he can kill at fenway.

Stop quoting defensive statistics based on a half year sample, it's simply not enough information.

I gotta go with Kilo on that one...plus i do believe from what ive seen that Tex is a superior defensive 1B and i dont take much faith in defensive stats.

THEY ARE BOTH SUPERIOR DEFENDERS.

THAT'S THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE.

No, the point you were trying to make was that Gonzalez was better. He's not.

I WILL AGREE WITH THAT!!!!

In addition to Destroyah's graph (which I like by the way), Gonzo has had many flyouts that would be HR's in Fenway or the LPFKAYS (Launching Pad Formally Known as Yankee Stadium). I remember they did an analysis of Gonzo's spray chart on SOSH and at around a month ago Gonzo had more than 15 flyouts in Petco that would have been HR's or 2B's at Fenway. And that's assuming a similar air pattern since we're going on distance, height, and location.

If he were playing at the LPFKAYS then that'd increase his totals dramatically.

Read back.

I specifically said Tex and Gonzo are in the same category as 1B.

I said it to Jacko, and i meant it.
