He's making 8 million this year' date=' and 8 next year. Looks good on paper, but is a bad move overall.[/quote']

Not if he only costs money.

I hope they can get him cheap or without giving up any prospects, that would be awesome. He's a huge upgrade over the s*** playing SS right now.

It would be especially nice if Adam Dunn dressed up as Christian Guzman and snuck out of the Nationals locker room instead, and then Christian Guzman dressed up as another waiver-wire acquisition from the Nationals and also made his way to Boston.

I'm sure there is a long line of people hoping to be able to slowly walk away from the Nationals, unnoticed, to other teams.

Yea... Then Pedro Martinez in an Expos jersey appears.

I like it.

I think Guzman is what Lugo was supposed to be. Decent speed, decent glove and a decent hitter, for average anyway.

Make it happen, can't hurt to replace the AAAA guys with a legit MLB caliber SS.

Way better then the current guys. Bit expensive. If Nats want prospects, they better be eating some cash.

We would quickly sour on Guzman. All batting average offensively, and error prone in the field. It's one thing to look at that on a stat sheet it's another to see it every day.

I was just going to ask how his glove was. Still he is probably better then what they have currently. Is there anyone better on waivers?

Guzman looks of. But I'm not sure I like him as the SS for this season and next. I'd rather go with Green and someone for the rest of this year. And go get a SS via trade or something.

Maybe they can get Hardy(ya kilo I know, I'm starting pretty early for my "bring Hardy to Boston" campaign;)) on the cheap side with his down year. At least he can field a good SS, with the chance of Fenway sparking his bat.

So give 'em Joshua Papelbon and make it good. For that amount of money they won't be looking for a huge return of talent.

Renteria was better than anything we've had since then.

On paper yes, in practice, the guy sucked both times he tried to transition to American League ball.

it's not exactly much of an accomplishment anyway. Although I'd argue that Alex Gonzalez was a better all around player than the Boston version of Renteria. It might have been a career year for Gonzo and a down year for Rent, but he WAS better in '06 than Rent was in '05..

Yeah, no pun intended, I ask because we all know how that ended. At least in scout.com every Boston fan wanted to kill Edgar with their own hands...

His BABIP of .351 is of extreme concern to me.

However, he also sports a below average LD% of 16.......it doesn't make sense.

Not me, I was actually disappointed when we traded him. I thought his second season in the AL would bring improvement. Plus we had already acquired Loretta that offseason, so he wouldn't have had to bat 2nd anymore.

I don't like committing us to next year's salary on a guy after we just spent a lot of money to offload a very similar shortstop.

This is an error prone SS with a career .699 OPS who will cost us $8M next year. How sure are we that what we're getting is actually a meaningful upgrade?

I think we will wind up regretting Cristian Guzman.

Then what o you suggest the Sox do?

WCS we wind up with an expensive bench player who can play 2nd, SS and 3rd adequately.

I realize that the timing of Lowrey's return and attempt to play back into condition collided with the non-waiver deadline somewhat. But I would really like to have had seen O'Cab back. Very solid D, good bat, and a clutch player. Even if he was bangin' other player's wives or what ever.

This move, if it happens, underscores the terrible problems that the Sox have at the position. He's just a stop-gap measure. We need a MLB SS, yes. But this guy is no bargain. O'Cab would have been better at considerably less money.
