In 2008' date=' the difference was 0.06 in ERA[/quote']

Pitchers hit, and of course, some of the weakest lineups in the history of ever.

Padres

Giants

Atlanta

Pirates

Mets

I could keep going.

4 of the last 8 World Champions were National League teams.

The postseason is a crapshoot.

Look at the 2006 Cards.

That argument cannot hold an ounce of water.

Thyere's a 0.22 difference in league ERA's ' date=' so the difference is not that big.[/quote']

We just saw the Difference today. Smoltz did not do s*** in the AL and the one win he did get the Sox had to score 15 runs.

Yes, and that would be definitive proof.

Awesome pitching staffs can take the blame for that one.

The problem is, the bottom-dwelling teams in the NL are GOD-AWFUL.

That so hard to grasp?

Look at what CC and Lee have done this year while switching leagues, and many an AL pitcher has done before them.

Smoltz could own no AL team like he owned the Pads today, if you believe differently, well, may God have mercy on your soul.

L-O-L.

The Cards were a better team than NO ONE, specially the Mets.

The proof is in the pudding, look at Smoltz today, Lee in Phi. and CC last year.

Both the Mets and the cards were better than the Tigers.

I was at game 7 when the cards beat the Mets. They all though that the Cards would get steam rolled by the Tigers. I made a few wagers that night, because I had seen a lot of the Tigers that year, and I didn't think that they were very good.

The bottom-dwelling teams in the NL create the talent gap.

The Tigers were near the bottom of the league in OBP. There lineup did not work pitchers. The Cards had a bad record because a number of their stars were injured. They got healthy for the stretch run and particularly the playoffs. Plus, the Tigers helped give away the WS. Good teams don't throw away 4 games with errors.

There might be an argument that there is more parity in the AL, but I don't think there is an overall big talent gap. I agree that there is still a talent gap that foavors the AL, but not to the extent there was about 5 years ago. I think a lot of young taent has established itself in the Nl moreso than in the AL in the last 5 years.

Strawman.

The question is whether or not the Tigers were the better team.

They were near the bottom in OBP, but near the top in homers, XBH, ERAS, and quality starts.

And the whole "stars injured" doesn't add up either.

The Cards simply did not have a very good team, even if Carp and Mulder had been completely healthy.

Lugo is hitting the ball, that's pretty good proof there...

But anyway Dan Haren is pitching like Pedro Martinez there and Javier Vasquez is an 'ace'.

Im surprised Santana isn't the best pitcher of all time, but then again his peripherals have dropped off from where they used to be.
