Injuries are not the FO's fault.

We had an established starting rotation at the beginning of the season plus Smoltz/Buch/Bowden as insurance.

Having 2/5 of a rotation injured will bring suck to any team.

The Dice-K s*** was crippling

Reports having coming back early September.

Smoltz needs to pitch like Smoltz instead of Hendrickson until then.

Maybe the plan is for when the rosters expand to have a game sharing arrangement. For example, Wakefield and Penny will each pitch 4 innings out of the 3rd slot. Dice K and Byrd will share the 4th slot, and Smoltz and Buchholz will share the 5th slot.

That reminds of the Seinfeld episode where George and Jerry team up with the idea that the two of them combined can do the job adequately of one boyfriend

Geez, Buch and SMoltz at #5, at their rates right now, in the 5th inning of that game, assuming neither will be effective for their 4 innings, they would be losing 15-0.

Is Byrd a solution? In his best days' date=' he was a 5 inning pitcher, and he will not be ready until September.[/quote']

That's not true. Last year with the Red Sox he never went less than 5 IP and averaged over 6 innings.

Bottom line is...we got two studs: Beckett and Lester. We really need Dice-K and Wake to come back healthy because if they dont, we're going to be in some serious trouble. I'll take Byrd as a 4th or 5th starter though, why not. He can't be any worse that Smoltz and Penny right? Right?

he hasnt pitched in a major league game all season and he's old as dirt. Paul Byrd is really your savior right now? Cmon.

He will be able to eat up some innings and save the bullpen for the stretch run..

Beckett/Lester/Dice/Wake/Byrd or Penny

Is a nice rotation heading into the playoffs.

lol.

Interesting game-sharing idea, by the way. Very interesting

The more that I think about it. The more I like the idea of game sharing in September when the rosters are expanded. Coco, if Theo is there float the idea to him. You can take the credit. I'm not seeking fame at this point in my life.

Right now, I would rate Byrd over Penny and Buchholz, off his previous stint in Boston. And maybe Dice-K for this year. And Wake has never come back very well from the DL the past few years.
