According to Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports, the Braves have acquired first baseman Adam LaRoche from the Red Sox.

LaRoche was suddenly left as the odd man out when Boston traded for Victor Martinez on Friday afternoon. He'll play behind Casey Kotchmann in Atlanta, but it's not like he was rolling in fantasy value with the Red Sox anyway.

If Kotchman is not traded in another deal, this deal makes no sense. Kotchman is a better defender. However, Laroche is a better hitter and has very strong second halves, as seen by his career splits.

 

His second half splits are as follows for his career:
