Our prior management was terrible. They would make terrible moves, and trade our talent away for nothing. The current administration came in with no farm system and few key major leaguers. Now we have a top farm system in the league, and already some great young players in the majors. The worst deal done by our current gm was the Bay trade, since we got one average 3rd basemen, a below average outfielder, terrible reliever, and high upside yet injured goods starting pitcher.

When we traded Nady to the Yankees we got the much better end of that deal. Mclouth deal we got the better end. This team has a minor leagues full of great young hitters, and we have a pretty decent young pitching staff. We are only 7 games out of first place.

When I think of top farm systems I think along these lines

Marlins

Rangers

Red Sox

Oakland

Atlanta

Tampa Bay

You are also 8.5 games back and 10 games under 500...still better than the Nats I guess

ryan about the only thing you should feel good about right now is that you are better than the Nats. Im not saying you shouldnt root for your team through thick and thin because I honestly admire that but your farm system isnt as good as you think, the Bucs have a LONG ways to go they MAY have a winning season in 3 years if they are smart with their farm system but dont kid yourself about being next years Tampa Bay Rays.

Brewers are at 80M this season. The Pirates a shade below 50M. So they will have 30M extra over the next three years to spend. Your advocate 1/2 of that new payroll be tied up in Bay?

Time to turn off the snooze and head back to reality.

As a Pirate fan I congratulate you Sox fans with being stuck with Adam Laroche. He is a first class player of the field...and on the field...well.

Ok He will be very frustrating for all of you because he is overated. He was the most untimely hitting player on the Pirates. As a Pirate's fan I am glad he is gone...

My quesiton is who do you sox fans think got the better end of the deal? Are these prospects we got anygood?

Neither, Bryce Harper wouldnt sign with a s***** ass team.

The problem with the baseball draft, the players dictate where they go.

He did say his goal is to wear pinstripes at SOME POINT in his career. I would assume he wouldnt sabotage his leverage by telling 29 of the 30 not to draft him

"I've always wanted to put on the pinstripes," he says. "But I absolutely love Boston. I'd play anywhere, even Kansas City."

Sidney Crosby said the same type of thing about playing for the Canadiens before his career started and its not gonna happen anytime soon.

Who knows? Last time we made a trade with the Pirates we got f***ed even though we thought we had it good.

The f*** does this mean?

Why do you want Harper? I mean obviously he's a great talent. But the Pirates using their 1st rounders on Catchers 2 consecutive years? I mean it's not unheard of but you would think they would want to try at other positions first.

Anyways, the Nationals aren't going on any winning streaks any time soon. So they will be building their franchise around Strasburg and Harper. And when they eventually trade Zimmerman, they should be able to pull in a decent haul. Of course this is the Nationals. So they might fall into the delusions of competing and sign veterans instead of building the farm system.

On that note, if the Nationals were smart() they would sell off Dunn, Johnson and anyone else of note at this hitter light TDL. They could really set the franchise up well for the future.

When have the Pirates used their first round choice on catchers 2 consecutive years??

This year Tony Sanchez

last year Pedro Alvarez

Sweet Christ I'm not even sure how to respond to this. You were the one that suggested going for the worst record so that you could draft Harper.... But I'll try,

2009 Tony Sanchez

2010 Bryce Harper

Is Harper really going to be a catcher? One would think with his offensive prowess, it might be tempting to move him to a corner post so he can focus on hitting. If I'd drafted him, unless he's a brilliant defensive C I'd rather have him learning to be a healthy 1B than have him go Mike Sweeney on a team.

His bat has much more value as a catcher' date=' than it does at a corner.[/quote']

Harper's chances of staying at catcher are slim at best.

If he sticks there and stays healthy there he does. If there's any chance he might not it just becomes a waste of precious developmental time.

This is what I thought, I don't see him staying at catcher, to prolong his career and great bat. I think he might turn into a centerfielder.

CF? lol WTF. If anything' date=' he'll be moved to 1B as other people on this thread have mentioned.[/quote']

Hi scott do you agree the Pirates are better then the red sox?

Ok no that is a joke. But Garrett Jones is not Maas he is the real deal.

Pirates are like a bunch of s*** that got absorbed into 1 GIANT s***. There like a giant s***. The Nationals are like a bunch of Felix Pies and Julio Lugos involved in 1 super s***.
