Seeing History vs. Wanting Your Team Not To Get No-Hit

Recommended Posts

Got this topic from EEI and I find it pretty interesting. Say you're a Rays fan at US Cellular yesterday in the 9th inning. Would you have rooted for Gabe Kapler's shot to make it over the wall or for Mark Buehrle to preserve his perfect game?

From a Sox fan's perspective, you can look back to 2007 when King Felix came in and took a no-hitter into (I think) the 8th inning. Were you rooting for Felix to get his no-hitter and be a witness to history or for the Sox to break it up?

Break it up.

I like to see history, but not against my team.

I agree. I was so happy for Buerhle but wouldn't have been if it had been against our Sox.

It would depend on the score. If it was 9-0, f*** it. I'd want to see the no-hitter or perfect game. If it is 1-0, win the game.

I guess since I've been to hundreds of games, the result of one individual game is not all that important to me, so I may have a different view.

I would lean towards the no-hitter.

I was at the Lackey game last year when he took a no-no into the 9th before Youkilis broke it up. If you're at home, and the fans have had nothing to cheer about all game, you want to cheer for that base hit. No doubt. Regardless of score.

Pretty much sums up how I feel as well.

Well' date=' I was overjoyed when Crazy Carl broke up Mussina's perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th in what, 2002?[/quote']

2 outs, 2 freaking strikes. I was ecstatic.

2 factors

The Team:Yankees=absolutely not, Rays=hell no, generally any one in Contention with us (also in any post-season play)

The Score: if its 9-0 let the man have it he deserves it especially if its a perfect game.

having said that i want every hitter to do whatever he can to stop it, I feel it is a hollow victory if the last 5 batters roll over just to give someone the perfect game just like Favre giving Strahan the record breaking sack. If im a player I want to know that I downed every batter while that batter tried as best as they could to get onbase and yet i still came up on top, nothing should be given to you.

If I was watching on TV i wouldn't care if it went either way. But If I was at fenway or something and the sox were getting no hit i would want that pitcher to get a no hitter just to be able to say i saw something like that in person

I don't care what the score is. I want the the perfect game/no hitter broken up. Screw the rarity of the event. I don't want my favorite team being part of history on the negative end.

In 25 years ppl wont look at the preformance and say "wow what a s***** job by the Sox, they really sucked" they will say "Damn, what a game by __________ that was beautiful..."

True. I still don't want it to happen.

Gom have you seen a no hitter in person?

Nope. I had tickets to the Astros no-hitting the Yankees, but I think I went out with some girl that night instead.

So if Joba's throwing a perfect game against at Fenway with 2 outs in the bottom on the 9th in a 13-0 blowout and Petey hits a screaming liner you'd be:

"Go foul, go foul!"

Lulz.

No but at the end of the night if Joba gets a perfect game its a loss (but something you get to see once in your life IF you are lucky) but if we break it up its probably still a loss...it would leave a bitter taste in my mouth but atleast id know i got to see one of the most amazing things a ball player can ever do...
