This is the problem with some fielding statistics. 2007, Jeter was as bad as it gets. He improved in 2008, and is above average now. An average fielding shortstop. Yet, he's got older and lost some range.

In terms of range, from what I've seen, Jeter has looked much better this year than he has in the past few years.

Went to the Athlete's Performance Center in the offseason and worked on lateral range.

 

It's paid off big time.

He hurt his quad last year too. It probably nagged him all season in the field.
