Why any GM would deem any player untouchable in the first place is beyond me, especially if you're a s***** team with no real improvement on the horizon

Because some people have a thing against swapping quality for quantity and others can't let the long shot go. There's always a thought that as long as you have a few truly talented players on the team the rest of the team might just hold it together for a year and put you in the playoffs.

I believe teams need to do what they can to develop a good core that will develop at the same time to make a run for a few years and trading Gonzo could bring back a significant chunk of that core.

Enough with the Talk...

I bet they are debating which deal would be better for them. AG or Halladay/Rios.

I think something is definitely going to get done whether it be Halladay or AG.

I'm praying they get something done.

Getting Gonzalez would be one of the most pleasant surprises imaginable, especially if they managed to do it without losing Reddick or Bard.

It would be pleasant for me if only because you have been stating with such conviction that it isn't even worth discussing because it won't happen, that we shouldn't speculate about it, etc., it ain't happening. Also, it would greatly improve this team.

Honestly, sell the farm and get both Halladay (take Rios and Wells) and Gonzo and shock the baseball world. THAT is not going to happen, but it would be great if it did.

I think it will be one of these two moves. If not I think they go with what they got. Possibly letting Bowden and Tazawa have a chance to start some games or get broken in out of the BP down the stretch.

Not to me, that would do a good job of hijacking our ability to improve in 2010 midseason (if needed) and a little beyond.

In 2010 we'd still have Gonzo and Halladay.

And can you guarantee for me that there won't be a single time in 2010 where a weakness of ours gets exposed or we suffer a critical injury?

of course but I think I've finally figured it out. I mean, most of us know this probably isn't getting done, but where's the harm in a little hope?

Looks like talks with vmart has hit a snag and now focus has shifted to a-gonz

The Red Sox appear to be back in discussions with the Padres about superstar first baseman Adrian Gonzalez after Boston experienced a little hiccup in talks with the Guardians involving Victor Martinez.

You want to headline a deal for gonzalez with an A ball arm, no matter who that A ball arm is I'm all for it.

Same with an A ball SS prospect. Whichever Kelly is, if he's the centerpiece of a Gonzo deal, I'm on board.
