You know what else evens out? 0-8 vs the sox. After tonight' date=' the yankees and the sox should be tied. [b']If we had even gone 4-4 vs you guys[/b], we'd be 8 games up

But you didn't.

Yeah' date=' Anderson, Bowden, and Kalish for Halladay is a pipe dream.[/quote']

Is it? Check out the deal the METS turned down for Halladay, I think the one I posted is comparable

Don't give me that bull. You also went 7-0 against the Twins. Like I said, that stuff evens out.

Minaya denied the deal. I think it was a false rumor.

Martinez and Niese are two high profile prospects in their own right. That would be akin to Anderson and Buchholz IMO (Martinez being worth more than Anderson and Buchholz being worth more than Niese to even it out). I think the deal that gets it done right now, no questions asked starts with Buchholz and Anderson and likely includes someone like Doubront and then a hitter further down.

That's different though. Beating us directly is a 2-game swing. Even if they went 5-2 against the Twins and 4-4 against us, they'd still be leading.

except that a sox vs. yanks game counts twice as much in the standings for the division lead...

7-0 vs the twins is nearly par for the course over the past decade. While the sox and yankees have played to essentially a tie yr in and yr out on average

my point is' date=' the sox are where they are because they have been flawless vs NY. That wont continue[/quote']

And the Yankees are what they are because they've been flawless against the Twins and they've gone 16-5 lately. They don't face the Twins again and they won't keep up that pace.

The only reason the Yankees are tied with the Sox is because the Yankees have played their best baseball of the year at the same time that the Sox have played their worst baseball of the year. If you disagree, prove me wrong. But that stuff evens out.

Here in the big leagues we play 162 games, not half a season.

Here's the thing. I haven't been around the past two weekends when they won 3 straight against the Royals or this past weekend against the Jays.

It's a gamethread. This is the place for reactionary posts. I don't need to be called out every time I say something remotely negative about the Sox.

Please give me one positive thing to take out of this game and I won't be negative for the rest of the night.

Heidi looked nice!

The problem with that logic is that, in terms of how good each team is, the gap between the Yankees and the Red Sox is much smaller than the gap between the Yankees and the Twins.

Obviously the Yankees aren't that much better than the Twins though.

EDIT: Not to mention the two game swing part, which has been pointed out by previous posters.

And my point is that you can say that about ANY game/team. What if we won more games against the Jays and Rays, what if, what if, what if.

It ALL evens out. If it wasn't the Yankees that we had a lot of success against in the first half, it might have been another AL East team. And don't give me "luck" as an answer. There is a ton of luck involved in each individual game.

the yankees have played .656 baseball over the last 66 games since ARod came back. Dont fool yourself into thinking they will regress to something too far below this

You mean to tell me the Yankees have gone undefeated against the Twins? That cool. Please take your pinstriped glasses off if you don't want to continue to be the laughing stock of this site.

I agree they'll regress. However, I believe that this Yankees team is more indicative of what was to be expected of them coming into the season.

And the Red Sox have played .700 ball with Youkilis not on the DL. Quit your lame ass, homer excuses. They're annoying and childish.

Yeah' date=' and if we hadn't lost a game this season, we'd be a s*** ton of games up on the Yankess. Your point....[/quote']

He keeps mentioning that stupid statement.

The Sox have owned the Yankees this year.

He needs to get the f*** over it.

He'll mention that it'll "even out" every chance he gets.

I agree with that. At the same time, the Red Sox have been playing their worst baseball of the season and tonight was the first time they had their healthy lineup since April 9th. We're going to improve as well.

Would you pull the trigger on that if you were Theo?

This is also what I'm trying to say, and I don't believe Jacko is incorrect here. This is way more representative of the Yankees team I expect to see from here on out. Not as good, but close.

Don't forget though, not everything will even out in one season.

Yes, the Sox have gone 8-0 thus far against the Yankees, that DOESN'T mean that we will then struggle against them in the 2nd half, so it can even out.

Each event is independent of other. What happened in the past (8-0) DOES NOT effect the future. We still have the same chance of winning against the Yankees as we would if we went 0-8 against them.

So, don't expect the Yankees to dominate us. The most likely course of action would be for us to split the remaining games.

Overall record since 2002- 41-14. Going by that win% we should have gone 5-2 or 6-1 vs them this yr. Like I said, not too much of a deviation from what occured.

I also agree that the team we have would improve. I don't think it's going to be enough without Theo making a deal, though.

My Halladay comment earlier was half-joking and reactionary, but even if we didn't address the offense but added Halladay, I would be satisfied. Any move that makes our team much better in one area is all we need, I feel.
