Halliday almost guarantees 2 straight trips to Octobers tourney and probably another parade.

This guy is the best pitcher in the game, will throw 375 innings for us in the next 1.5 years and can be counted on day in and day out..

I dont see the former Holy""we dont recruit"" Name hoop coach selling this guy inside the division under any circumstances but we've seen funnier things happen.

depends on how much he values our prospects...

I have always advocated for saving prospects, but I think now is the time for Theo to swoop in and nab Halladay. I doubt he does, but Halladay is like adding an in-his-prime Schilling to the rotation. He does give them an unbelievable rotation in the playoffs and down the stretch and if they resign him and Beckett then they are able to contend for years to come. If they don't resign him they let a type-A FA go and get some picks.

I actually LOVE the idea of Buchholz staying in the division too. If our fear was that he would develop into a Yankee and Ray killing machine over the next few years then he'll have plenty of chances in Toronto just like Halladay did. I don't know about the rest of you, but every time Halladay pitched against the Yankees I was definitely hopeful that the Jays would pull one out.

Two starts each of Halladay, Beckett and Lester in any 7 game series is really, really hard to beat.

Get it done Theo.

Ya but if Halliday goes to Boston and helps us win a title while Toronto is myred in last place with Baltimore JP's ass is on the line and Toronto is a fickle town, they dont show up unless its hockey or the Js are winning...They had 4M in attendence a few years in a row in the 90s when they went back to back but after the strike they never really came out for them..Sox games in Toronto are essentially home games for us now.

Does Lee's trade to Philadelphia pave the way for the Sox to land Halladay?

I'm still very concerned about the last-second Yankee involvement that always seems to happen.

The difference is that if the Yankees deal for Halladay they actually have to mortgage their future. We can deal for Halladay and still keep a reasonable cadre of prospects around.

At the moment, Halladay would just replace what they usually get from Chien-Ming Wang. They're basically looking for a blockbuster to replace attrition rather than to objectively improve.

Olney is reporting that Ricciardi countered with Lester, Buchholz and a prospect. haha. I wouldnt deal Lester for Halladay straight up, let alone with Buchholz and another prospect

JP is out of his goddamned mind.

Ricciardi is actually crazy enough to think we'll deal an established, veteran Lester for Halladay when we wouldn't deal a young, unproven Lester for Johan Santana?

Pass. And then some.

Message is clear: If I'm going to deal in division I will be compensated for the aggrivation of seeing a favorite play for a rival

Irrelevant, the Yankees, like the Red Sox, have the financial muscle to restock their farm system.

I really think if they tell JP that they'll take Rios's contract, and give them Jackson/Montero and ONE of Hughes/Chamberlain and throw in some more cash that JP would be hard pressed not to take that deal.

The Yankees never "mortgage their future".

You're certifiably insane if you think that. Wang hasn't been healthy since 2007 and adding Halladay to Burnett and Sabathia makes them instant WS favorites if they aren't there already.

Oh Id deal Lester straight up for Halliday but wouldnt add in any prospects

You'd trade 5 more years of Lester for 1.5 of Halladay?

Really?

he is out of his f***in mind, why on earth would we want Halladay if it meant we had to give up Lester? that completely defeats the purpose...

Ya I would, theyre highest paid player makes 14M,theyve cut payroll 2 yrs in a row so they can reup Roy faster than you can say Parade on the Charles..Its not eating the proverbial s*** sandwich when you get the best arm in the game to go with Beckett and a cast of up and coming youth.

I hate to even mention this but Lester already beat the C once, his dad got it and Ive seen that s*** come back time and time again to take young people out in their prime.

we are discussing the best arm in baseball so the price will be steep IF they want him.

Under no circumstances should Lester be involved in a deal for Halladay. Ricciardi has to know Theo would never consent to that. There's being smart, and then there's being greedy.

Wait, I thought it was the Wells contract they want to dump...

Buster Olney does NOT have a twitter account' date=' it's a fake[/quote']

Who would want to pretend to be Olney?

i dont believe many reports that come off of Twitter anyways...unless its Chad OchoCinco or Shaq reporting it of course.

Yanks are a 3-1 favorite to win the series at this time

followed by the Sox at 3.5 and then Philly at 4-1 and LaDogers at 5-1.

You can still get Texas at 12-1 if you have the cajones.

I really do despise the 48 hours before the deadline, history hasnt been kind to us over the years.

Now Olney is saying that the Jays are going to keep Halladay and try to win in 2010 and that the sox aren't going after Halladay to try to make a stronger offer for V-Mart...

Certain moves would make no sense. Trading Lester for Halladay would make no sense. We are looking to add an ace, not swap aces.

With regard to VMart, where would he play on an everyday basis. . . Catcher? Is he a capable catcher. What's with all the interest in Adrien Gonzalez? Who would sit for him to play? If the Red Sox can't land a stud pitcher, they should make a big push for Hanley Ramirez to shore up SS, or go for a big OF bat.

A surprise deal of Buchholz, Bowden, Lowry and Anderson for Hanley would make a lot of folks very happy.

well IF (and thats a big if) they got Gonzo they would probably DL Lowell for the rest of the season, but I dont know what we would do with him next year, we cant get s*** out of him in trade value, so I dont know, V-Mart would be useful but I dont see what use we have for him til after the offseason.

The Jays are overplaying there hand on Halladay. No team is going to give 4 of there top 8 prospects w/ at least 2 being top 3 for a 32 year old pitcher who says he will test the market in a year and a half. If he was 25 then they have every right to ask for that. Much like the Twins did w/ Santana I can see the Jays walking away w/ far less then they were offered in the first place. I thought the Philly deal was fair
