I hope it's after the 5th. I kind of use that as a personal barometer of how the team is doing, and the earlier it happens, usually the worse off we are.

It has been raining VERY hard for twenty minutes or so. Horizontal rain at that! Hail the size of Yankee Fan testicles. It's calming down now. I'm 35 miles SW of Fenway. Can someone more capable than me post one of those real-time dopler displays?

But with a tornado warning in the Worcester area as well as reports of possible hail later today, the weather update for tonight's game between the Red Sox and Oakland A's is a worthwhile one. So here you go:

 

The current weather forecast in the vicinity of Fenway Park calls for the possibility of scattered light rain showers to move through the area during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

 

According to weather.com, there is an 80-percent chance of precipitation from 7 to 8 p.m. More showers are expected after 8 p.m., though the likelihood of rain drops to 35 percent at 9 p.m.

 

The Fenway Park gates will open at the regularly scheduled time of 5:10 p.m. for the 7:10 p.m. start

Looks like it's going to rain until around 8, then not rain for a little while, then continue to rain at 10. Seems like enough of a window to get in an official game, we just might not play all 9.

As manager Terry Francona sat down at the podium this afternoon for his regular session with the media, the first question he was asked was, "Ready for the tornado?"

 

Francona's face went blank. "Pardon?" he said.

 

Apparently he hasn't seen the tornado warning in place for tonight. No sign of a twister yet at Fenway Park, though it did start lightly raining as the Sox were taking batting practice, enough that the tarp went on the field at 4:45, interrupting BP. Francona also revealed that he's been in an earthquake, in Tacoma, Wash., when he was about six years old: "I was on my way to school and panicked and ran home."

 

The tarp remains on the field with the game scheduled to start in two hours.
