In November 1999 my Son attended a Nomar/Mo Vaughn hitting camp at Strike One Motivated Sports in Danvers, Ma..

I drove up to the camp for the Graduation. My Son was already there having been dropped off by his Mother. As I approached Strike One on Rt.1 north, a car closed on my car to within one car length. At about 50 mph this got my attention. I was watching this car in my rear view mirror as I neared the driveway into the Strike One parking lot. I could not apply the brakes as this ass whole would have collided with me. I should have just kept going straight and past my turn-off but made a hasty decision to turn in at speed. As I did this, I noticed a man walking from the parking lot towards the building. I came within about three feet from hitting him as I swerved into the lot. He turned around. It was Nomar. He glared at me and continued into the building.

This was at the height of his career and his popularity. Can you imagine what kind of s*** I would have been in had I actually hit him?

In 2000 I met him at another camp held at Bridgwater State College. He was a very nice young man with a very "average guy" demeanor.

I suck. I know.:(

Well, you didn't ACTUALLY hit him, so I guess I can let it slide this time. Just don't go running over Pedroia or Ellsbury.

Did you tell him it was you that nearly ran him over the year before?

As a matter of fact, I did. He looked puzzled and did not remember the indecent. I think.

If you had hit Mo Vaughn you would have totalled your car and they would have needed the Jaws of Life to get you out of the car. You would have done Duquette a favor. He probably would have given you season tickets.

You would have been forced to leave the country and live under an alias if you had hit him.

You know, my first thoughts were that other than prosecution, my immediate concern would be how to be able to survive living in a cave or jungle somewhere in South America. Really.

I got to shake his hand and thank him. And watch as my Son had his picture taken with the big guy. Mo seemed totally at ease with the process.

My Camry wagon (aka the "Divorce-Mobile") survived, thankfully.

That guy in Chicago that cough the fly ball during the Cubs game is living large compared to what I would have gone through. It's in the past. But I'll never forget Nomar's expression as he dodged the left-front of my Toyota.

You should rename it the "Spudmobile"... maybe get a plate!

Good story.
