Beckett (9-3, 3.67 ERA) vs Eveland (1-2, 7.40 ERA)

We better mash this bum Eveland. Just called up and pitching on 3 days rest. No excuses tonight.

Eveland is a lefty. I wonder whether we will play the same lineup as last night.

For the record, the Sox were supposed to be facing Dallas Braden tonight but he returned home yesterday to be with his grandmother, who suffered a heart attack

I hope his grandmother is OK. That being said, this is a pretty big break for us. Braden is a much better pitcher.

It's great to see Pedroia back in the lineup' date=' but here we go again with Bates. Can't Green play 3B with Lugo at SS?[/quote']

Tells you what they think of Lugo, especially after he air mailed that throw last night

Fine. Then can we send him back to the minors and get a real major leaguer?

Do you have a trade proposal?

Buchholz' date=' Bowden, Anderson, Kelly and Hagadone for Teahen[/quote']

I don't know... Teahen's pretty good.

Agreed.

Hey team, hit the ball, score runs, and win.

Or if you can't quite manage to do that, at least lose with some dignity. Last night was embarrassing. ;)

Whats wrong with Bates? Sure he's nothing great but he is up here to replace Bailey. Kotsay will replace him as soon as a righty comes in.
I ahve no problem with him. Let's start him against Sabbathia the next time we face the Yankees.

Pedroia back in lineup, says wife went into labor

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff July 7, 2009 04:06 PM

Dustin Pedroia provided an update today on the status of his pregnant wife Kelly, whom he said went into labor yesterday (she is seven weeks from her due date) and was hospitalized. Doctors were able to stop the labor and stabilize her. She is currently resting at the hospital.

"She's a lot tougher than I am," said Pedroia, who missed last night's game to be with his wife but is in tonight's lineup.

Pedroia said this afternoon that he got a call from general manager Theo Epstein last night and received text messages from teammates sending their thoughts.

He also said that his wife told him to play tonight and not to worry about her, though the Red Sox second baseman acknowledged he has been calling her every five minutes.

"Obviously I'm thinking about it," Pedroia said

Yeah, as much as last game sucked, I'm going to pass it off as just one game. It doesn't seem like we've been hitting mediocre pitching lately, but I think that's been compounded by our own pitching's struggles. Seattle leads the AL in ERA at 3.69 and we twice scored more than 5 runs against them in that series.

Of course if we don't hit Eveland, then I'll be worried.

Bedard and Washburn have a lot to do with that and we didn't face either

Felix has as much to do with it as anyone, and we did score 3 runs off him and then get to their bullpen (3.36 ERA on the season).

If we want Bates out of the lineup would we could do is play Ortiz at 1st and then DH Baldelli. Kotsay should be back soon though hopefully, and then it won't be an issue.
