He had the following to say when he was interviewed today:

"The minute I put that uniform on I dreamed I was gonna start my career in Boston and end my career in Boston. I still have that dream. The only difference from the original dream is that I wasn't supposed to put another uniform on. But that dream is still there."

The Red Sox could use some help at the corner infield positions. Does Nomar deserve any discussion?

Could be exciting. he has experience at 1B, and in a backup role it might not matter that he isn't available for a few games at a stretch.

Course, I was all for signing the guy in the offseason instead of Mark Kotsay.`

It won't happen. But it is a very appalling idea, for the sentimental fans (myself included).

Despite his BA, he can still hit.

For the FO it isn't.

Did you mean to say "appalling" rather than "appealing?"

No, I did not.

Nomar would not solve any short or long term deficiencies for the Sox. He can't play the left side anymore, from what I've read. That would leave him as a RH bat at first (at best) or DH.

I don't think that's enough to justify relinquishing valuable prospects/relief talent.

I see the Sox sticking with Kotsay at first and Youk at third at least until Lowell and Lowrie come back. They will then reassess the situation and make a move if necessary.

Nomar would be a "sentimental" acquisition. That's just not consistent with the history of mid-season deals that the current FO regime has made. It makes no business sense.

It wont happen. Tonight was a really nice moment, but lets not forget his decision to reject the 4/60 offer. Also, Ill never forget the memories of Jeter diving into the stands to make a catch while Nomar was on the bench crying/benched/injured.

He was my favorite player (Manny was once too, jeez these guys are killing me), but it was time to move on, and in the long run Theo made a correctly calculated decision.

If the Redsox were not aggressive enough to bring back Clemens a year ago, and let him finish his career here wearing #21 to have it retired (keep in mind before the steroid accusations), then they would be no different with Nomar. I think he burned his bridges with the current GM.

You are probably right about that, but if the guys in the FO are good businessmen, and I think they are, they will put aside the hard feelings and make their decision based on whether he could help the current club. I think he would be valuable insurance on the bench and he could spell Lowell and Youk even if he can only play first. If they could get him for somebody like Bates, let's face it, Bates is never going to crack the Sox lineup at first. I think Nomar would relish the role. He is at the end of his career, but I think he has something to offer coming off the bench.

I think it would become more of a sideshow than anything and hopefully Nomar would be able to rise above that

You never know, that kind of attention could really juice him up. And maybe the Sox get one last Summer out of him:dunno: Weirder s*** has happened.

It wouldn't cost much, and it would be a good on the field and off the field move(if he can manage 3B duties when asked to).

That's a sizeable if there, BSN. The last time he played a position other than 1B for extended periods without sustaining an injury was when he was with us.

Yes it is. but it's not like it will cost the farm.

A vagina joke is in order.

I doubt he could handle it everyday yes. But once maybe 2 times a week:dunno:

Nomar is a putty body. Always has been, always will be. He's old, his defense/offense is in question and he was a cancer in the clubhouse. Remember, that's why we got rid of him when we did.

Nomar back to Boston would be a feel good story, but at this point he doesn't provide anything the Red Sox can't get from the personnel they already have in hand.

Like every fan who saw him play in Boston, I loved him as a player and it restored my faith in RSN when he got the standing ovation the other night. For all fans who were there, thank you for doing the classy thing.

But let him ride off into the sunset with another team.

I agree with Crespo. If we brought Nomar back it would be for nostalgia, not talent. Meaning Theo will never do that.

Nomar = marginal upgrade at best.
Nomar is a huge upgrade over Bailey and Bates. Offensively, it is no-contest, and defensively he is much better than Bailey, who stinks. He is more versatile than Bates in that he can fill in at 3 IF positons. I would n't trade a top prospect to get him, but if they could get him for Bates they couldn't go wrong.
