He's only had 8 at bats, so there's no need to panic. But he has only one hit (.125) and two walks. On the bright side, he's yet to strike out so he's putting the ball in play. It's looking like me may not be back until after the All-Star break. The Sox are really taking things slow, only giving him 1-3 at bats per game.

His progress is definitely something to monitor though. Whenever he's been healthy, he's hit and hit well. And his defense last year was really smooth.

As you said' date=' only 8 at bats so not a worry. And taking it slow seems like a fine idea; Green will suffice through the AS break at least, which is only a few weeks away.[/quote']

I believe Francona said Lowrie will get about 30-40 at bats before being called up. He's only gotten 1 AB in a couple of games though (he was hit by a pitch in his knee) and missed a day or two while the swelling went down.

He's a major leaguer, not a prospect. He doesn't have a lot of big league experience but This is a rehab start, not a trip to the minors where the kid has to prove he's developed. I don't believe Lowrie even burns an option on this, so expecting him to perform as if he was a minor league prospect and had to fight hard to "earn" a roster spot doesn't make a ton of sense.

And make no mistake. Jed Lowrie is our starting shortstop. What we've gotten from Green is very nice, but once we get Lowrie back, Green will either hit the bench or go to Pawtucket if the Sox don't want to eat Lugo's deal. you just can't count on the guy not to regress in a crucial situation.

Cafardo said on the pre-game show that they are not in a rush to bring Lowrie back. he said that they will take some more time to work out the Lugo situation. Green is staying.

"Work out the Lugo situation". Sounds like we're trying to get ANYONE to take a million or two a year off his contract. Maybe we could bundle him with a mid-level prospect.

What that means in layman's terms is that they're using Lowrie's extended rehab to find out if theycan dump Lugo on someone. Personally, I don't think so. There really isn't that close to contention midmarket team that needs an SS out there. The closest you'd get is possibly a team like Seattle that's a little delusional.

He could be a bench piece of a National League team. His speed makes him somewhat valuable. We're not going to get anything back for him though and we'll have to eat most of his salary.

"Lowrie has been rehabbing his surgically repaired wrist in the minors, but was hit in the back of the knee by a pitch last Tuesday. He had two at-bats Sunday before removing himself from the Triple-A Pawtucket's game. He sat out Monday."

Lowrie went 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI today for Portland. He's now up to .263/.364/.316 in 19 rehab at bats.

He hadn't played in a while because he was day-to-day after getting hit by a pitch and the Pawtucket game was rained out yesterday.

Placed on the 60 day DL today, wont effect him since it was retroactive and has already spent that time on the DL.

I saw 4 at bats for Lowrie tonight (Pawtucket). He struck out twice and flied to center twice. He was robbed on one of the fly balls. It was going to be a double to the wall. The pitcher for Indie was dealing. He had a 2 hitter through 8 innings when I stopped watching.

Lowrie also dropped a fly ball near the foul line in left. E-6.

Rough day. He should get one more game tonight before being activated tomorrow I believe.
